Rhino Camp is the only camp up here that offers safaris to view rhino. Working alongside the World Wildlife Fund, safaris are done by vehicle but also on foot – the latter being one of Africa’s finest wildlife experiences available anywhere.
DESERT RHINO CAMP LOCATION & ACCESS:
The camp lies amongst the rolling, rocky hills of the 450, 000-hectare Palmwag Concession in the wild Damaraland region.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT DESERT RHINO CAMP:
Rhino Camp itself is a fabulous camp; its fairly simple design fits with the intrepid nature of visiting a place as special as this; a luxury camp just wouldn’t fit into this reserve. There are just eight tents here, giving guests exclusivity of a vast reserve.
DESERT RHINO CAMP ACTIVITIES:
- Many safari enthusiasts believe Namibia’s safari is poor in comparison to elsewhere in Africa. For the most part, we agree – Botswana’s Okavango certainly blitzes Etosha. However, Palmwag is an exception to that belief - the Palmwag concession is a pristine, private, wilderness area, home to approximately 150 black desert rhino. They are some of the rarest creatures on earth.
- There is other game here, but the reserve is far from prolific in its big game sightings – you are unlikely to see any cats. As long as you understand that before you visit Rhino camp, then it may well become one of your favourite camps in Africa……as it is ours.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
**Walking with rhino in Namibia is one of Africa's finest walking experiences. However, our clients should also know that the guides here carry no firearms, something you need to be aware of when booking this activity.
