Azura Quilalea

  • Lovely private island in Mozambique’s northern Quirimbas Archipelago
  • An eco-luxury beach lodge accommodating max. 18 guests
  • Nine cottages set on two beautiful sandy beaches
  • Many activities available, plus spa, swimming pool, watersports centre
When To Visit Mozambique:

Quilalea has had a troubled past, as previous owners have struggled to fill the lodge in a location as remote as this. However, today the island enjoys great success! Azura owns a luxurious property in Mozambique’s Bazaruto Archipelago also.

*Unfortunately, Azura Quilalea Lodge is within an area of Mozambique that the FCO is advising against travel to, but given the remote location of this island and it's distance from problem areas, we are hoping that this will be short lived. So although we are not selling this property at the moment, we hope to be doing so very shortly. If you would like to speak to one of our consultants for more up to date information, please don't hesitate to contact us.*

OVERVIEW:
We believe the lodges in the Quirimbas Archipelago are in a league of their own. Vamizi Island Lodge seems to attract all the press attention in this area, but Quilalea was the first truly luxurious lodge here, and due to recent refurbishment it is back to its best – at a more affordable price than its famous neighbour!

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Azura at Quilalea is a beautiful private island in Mozambique’s fantastic northern Quirimbas Archipelago. It lies within a fully protected Marine Reserve and is surrounded by pristine coral reefs that are home to some spectacular dive sites. Quilalea also has easy access to nearby Ibo Island.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The cuisine is based on natural produce that is available locally, with lots of fresh fish and seafood. Dining is a relaxed affair, yet still very special – guests can choose to have breakfast at the water’s edge, lunch next to the pool or out on a picnic, dinner by candlelight on the beach beneath the stars…

This is one of the most eco-luxury beach lodges that we offer. Accommodating a maximum of 18 guests, nine cottages are stretched out along two beautiful sandy beaches. They are made of local materials – coral stone walls, wooden beams and thatched roofs. Inside they are decorated and furnished in what is described as ‘comfortable, all natural, designer beach-chic’ style.

ACTIVITIES:
Activities include scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking, fishing and dhow sailing. The diving facilities are particularly good, as the new watersports centre includes a five-star PADI dive centre, a training pool and a specialist diving catamaran. Birdwatching is also popular as there are over 60 species of bird, including Madagascan bee-eaters and paradise flycatchers. For guests who prefer to be pampered, there is a spa up on the headland.
