It might just be the most picturesque resort on the island, due to its lush lawns, peaceful ponds, and even a small indigenous forest! It is 35km from the airport and not far from the small town of St. Felix, Savanne.
Most of the communal facilities occupy the buildings at the centre of the resort. They include a boutique, library, conference room, Red Ginger Lounge and two restaurants around the main pool, which has a Jacuzzi too. The restaurants here comprise Pebbles for all-day dining featuring Indian and Creole cuisine, and Stars for South African specials using local fare. Fresh fish, meat and game dishes are available at Fish Shack, located on the beach. The beach is also home to the watersports centre, while the gardens contain the spa, gym, yoga pavilion, kids’ club and rum shed too! Additionally, the resort has its own herb and vegetable garden, sourced by the chefs in creating delicious cuisine.
Accommodation at Shanti Maurice consists of five categories – Junior Suite, Luxury Villa, Luxury Suite Villa, 2-Bedroom Suite Villa and Shanti Villa. All suites are spacious and feature king-size bed, plasma TV, DVD player, internet access, and lovely views of the sea. The villas boast private pool, private garden, enclosed courtyard with outdoor rain shower and lounge beds – and the Shanti Villa is billed as the most prestigious guest accommodation in Mauritius, with its own team of staff and setting amid landscaped gardens within the farthest corner of the resort! All accommodation is constructed from wood and thatch, blending beautifully into its surrounds, while interiors have a fresh and contemporary style.
Shanti Maurice offers an excellent assortment of non-motorised watersports – windsurfing, snorkelling, kayaking, pedalos. Waterskiing, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing may be arranged on request, outside the resort. Inland, guests enjoy tennis, yoga, meditation, cookery, and use of the well-equipped gym. Golf is available at Heritage Golf Club, just 10 minutes’ drive away. At Shanti Maurice, staff are happy to organise a variety of excursions – to such attractions as BlueBayMarinePark, Grand Baie, Le Morne and Chamarel for swimming with dolphins! And the resort’s kids’ club provides plenty of things to do for guests aged 3–12 years – face painting, musical games, and trips to the nearby crocodile park and bird sanctuary, to name a few.
Shanti Maurice is a member of Nira Hotels & Resorts. This group aims to appeal to the nomadic traveller, who favours a sincere and enthusiastic type of hospitality. Additional dining experiences Grandma’s Kitchen and Herb Garden BBQ bring authenticity to the resort – guests are invited to dine at the home of a staff member’s own grandmother and to tuck in to freshly prepared Mauritian meals! And you are guaranteed a warm welcome at the spa, to revitalise via a range of holistic experiences.
Sun, sea, sand, surf… and a little Mauritian spirit too! We at Yellow Zebra reckon Shanti Maurice has all the attractions of the island’s resorts, but with that extra sprinkling of flavour. And with its kids’ club, it is thoroughly recommended for families!
