"We have yet to see this property since it was taken over by the Marriott brand. However, it receives great feedback, and is a particularly good option for families with young children."

OVERVIEW:

The JW Marriott Mauritius Resort is listed in the property portfolio of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. This vast international company consists of no fewer than nine separate brands of accommodation, with the St. Regis brand well renowned for luxury living. It aims to provide service that is flawless and bespoke – and this is delivered via its butler service, personalized approach to dining at many restaurant locations, and overall excellence at the Iridium Spa with the full menu of therapeutic treatments. The very first St. Regis hotel opened in 1904 – hence The 1904 Bar – so the brand draws on over a century of experience!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The JW Marriott Mauritius Resort is located on the south-west coast of the island, close to the majestic mountain Le Morne. Once a refuge for runaway slaves, this basaltic monolith became a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008. The resort is approximately 45km from the airport, which is in the south.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE JW MARRIOTT MAURITIUS RESORT:

Designed by world-famous architects Stauch Vorster, St. Regis resembles a Victorian sugar-baron’s manor house and adjoining estate. An abundance of colonial touches adds character to the buildings, while carefully selected furnishings lend the place a home-from-home feel. Restaurants and bars comprise Le Manoir Dining Room for Mauritian fare, Atsuko for Asian cuisine, Floating Market for south-east Asian specials, The Boathouse Bar & Grill for beachside gourmet treats, and The 1904 Bar for a heady mix of snacks, cocktails and live entertainment. Additionally, the resort boasts a spacious swimming pool, luxury spa, fully equipped fitness center, and kids’ club too!

Room and suite accommodation at JW Marriott is also colonial in style, enhanced by natural materials and neutral palettes. There are six categories – Deluxe Room with ocean or garden view, Beachfront Suite classed as Junior or St. Regis or St. Regis Grand, and Manor House Ocean View Suite. Other than the Manor House suites, rooms and suites are laid out in crescents within the resort’s tropical gardens. All options are air-conditioned and include 40-inch LED TV with DVD player, complimentary Wi-Fi, complimentary butler service, mini bar, and a private terrace or balcony for guests to relax and appreciate the view. The Villa is contemporary in design and is situated a little apart from the other buildings. It features a whole team of staff dedicated to ensuring smooth service for guests, in addition to a private kitchen, private terraces and private plunge pools.

ACTIVITIES
AT THE JW MARRIOTT MAURITIUS RESORT:

  • Activities at JW Marriott focus on watersports, all available from the watersports center positioned on the beach.
  • For free, guests enjoy waterskiing, windsurfing, snorkeling, kayaking, pedal boats and glass-bottom boat rides.
  • A surcharge is payable for scuba diving, kite surfing, big-game fishing, catamaran cruises, boat trips – and, in the west-coast bays of Black River and Tamarin, swimming with dolphins! On land, guests may make use of the resort’s swimming pool, tennis court and fully equipped gym.
  • It is possible also to explore the local area, including hiking around Le Morne, and children aged 4–12 years have the run of The Kite Flyers Club to take part in nature walks, boat trips, arts and crafts, and cookery.
