"An exclusive safari experience, with private guides, a wide variety of activities, and a strong focus on culture and the surrounding local communities. John and Gill are fantastic hosts and the panoramic views are hard to beat! One of the few lodges that offers a visit to the Singing Wells, where the local communities draw water up from the wells for their livestock."

OVERVIEW:

Ol Lentille is the perfect place to relax and really is an outstanding option for travelers to Laikipia who love the concept of safari-lux. With four fully-serviced villas surrounded by unmatched views, Ol Lentille provides truly top-notch accommodation in a lovely location. The exclusive villas are ideal for couples, families, and groups.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Ol Lentille is situated on a community-owned conservation area in the Laikipia North area. The conservation area covers over 40,000 acres and the property is positioned on one of the highest points in Laikipia.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT OL LENTILLE:

The communal areas of Ol Lentille are both lavish and serene. Though the villas are fully-serviced, there are several additional facilities to enjoy at the main area. Inside the main building, there is a relaxing lounge with plenty of sofas, easy chairs, and fresh flowers adorning the tabletops. This room also contains a fireplace and flows out onto a viewing deck with seating that overlooks the spectacular bushscape - this is called the gallery. Other outside areas include the spacious swimming pool, flanked by shaded sunloungers and pods filled with comfy cushions – the pool also overlooks two watering holes. You can choose a book from the library – or just sit back and enjoy the view. The rooftop bar is above the gallery and sets the stage for both private dining and stargazing experiences. And the spa is ideal for a little pampering, providing treatments such as massage, mani-pedis, and aromatherapy.

Visitors to Ol Lentille have a choice of four luxury villas, with slight differences between each one. We provide a brief description of all four units:

Carissa sleeps two people and is a contender for being one of the most romantic hideouts in Kenya. The Carissa villa features a luxurious circular bed, an outdoor bathtub, and breathtaking panoramic views. It is perched on a rocky outcrop with floor-to-ceiling windows, a private deck, a private dining room, and an open-air bathtub that is not to be missed!

Aloe sleeps four people and is an impressive double-story villa. It has two double bedrooms, both featuring an en-suite bathroom, dressing room, sunken bath, and open-air shower. They also both have private terraces. The living spaces in the Aloe villa include a sitting room, dining room, large outdoor terrace, and a plunge pool boasting views of Mount Kenya and the nearby watering hole that is visited by elephants.

Acacia, similar to the Aloe villa, also sleeps four people and includes two double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a dressing room. There are terraces with great views and a scenic dining and lounging area - the only difference in this villa is that the facilities are across one level in the house, and there is no private plunge pool.

Boscia is the largest of the villas, with three bedrooms and multiple communal areas. With contemporary interiors and a huge wrap-around deck, this would be best suited for a large group or a family of six. Guests can take in the views of Mount Lentille from the plunge pool and outdoor area with a campfire.

Guests of all houses will have personal house staff and a personal Maasai guide, plus exclusive use of a 4x4 safari vehicle. For more activities, please see below.

ACTIVITIES AT OL LENTILLE:

Ol Lentille provides some very exciting activities! Unlike a regular safari lodge, where days are organized around the morning and evening game drives, Ol Lentille is highly personalized and family-focused, with an endless choice of outdoor activities, cultural experiences, community engagement, and game viewing.

  • Visiting the singing wells

    - Unique to the Maasai and Samburu tribes in this particular part of Kenya, Ol Lentille is home to three sets of 'singing wells'. Guests can visit the singing wells, where the locals dig deep into lagha (dry riverbeds), and create a human chain that descends into the well so that water can be passed up to the surface in buckets. The men sing (a rather hauntingly beautiful chant) during this tradition, which acts as a signal to their cows telling them it is time to come and drink. Please note this only happens in the dry season.
  • Walking adventures

    - Walking safaris are guided by Samburu and Maasai warriors and is a special walk into their ancient lands. Here, guests will enjoy beautiful scenery and wildlife on the walks.
  • Camel safaris

    - Scenic rides can be had along the river, led by Maasai warriors. These camel safaris last about 90 minutes.
  • Wildlife-viewing

    - The property’s conservancy comprises almost a thousand hectares of hills, valleys, and wooded areas, home to leopard, elephant, zebra, klipspringer, greater kudu, and both spotted and striped hyenas.
  • Helicopter trips

    - At an extra cost, guests can go on an exceptionally scenic helicopter ride around the very wild and rugged parts of northern Kenya.
  • Quad biking

    - Quad biking from the lodge is possible, where guests can drive to the local village and explore the conservancy.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
