OVERVIEW:

Tamarind Tree Hotel is an outstanding option for travellers seeking a reliable stopover in Nairobi, both before and after flying out to your safari destination. Accommodation is booked on a B&B basis and the hotel is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel is situated on Langata Road, Nairobi, close to Wilson Airport. It’s usually accessed via road transfer from the city’s international airport, Jomo Kenyatta.

?ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TAMARIND TREE HOTEL:

There are five types of rooms and suites. At entry level is the Standard Room, occupying 32 square metres and benefiting from plenty of natural light and pleasant earthy décor. Furnishings include a king-size bed or twin beds, double-glazed windows, blackout curtains, and a work desk with comfy chair. Amenities include independent air conditioning, a 43-inch flatscreen television, complimentary teas/coffees and water, an in-room safe, a hairdryer, and international plugs. The en-suite facilities feature a rain shower. Next up is the Junior Suite, which has all the attributes of the Standard Room but is more spacious, at 42 sq m. The Executive Suite and the Superior Suite are the same size, but each also offers a lounge area with a sofa and can accommodate up to three adults. Finally, the Family Suite is the largest option at 52 sq m and boasts a lounge area that can be converted into a shower for its second bedroom. It too is large enough for three adults.

The Tamarind Tree has an excellent assortment of eateries and other communal spaces where you can relax in between flights. Known as the social hub of the hotel, Dawa Lounge is your go-to for elegant afternoon teas and evening drinks and snacking. For all meals, you can head to Tamambo Restaurant, which offers a fresh take on international cuisine, an impressively long wine list, and even live cooking stations for an interactive experience. Another restaurant well worth a visit is Carnivore, close to the hotel. As its name suggests, this is a venue for meat-eaters! Whole joints of beef, pork, lamb, ostrich, and crocodile are roasted here, on Maasai swords and above an immense charcoal pit. For lighter bites, there’s Duka Coffee Shop, where you can pick up a packed lunch too.

ACTIVITIES AT TAMARIND TREE HOTEL:

Many of Nairobi’s most popular attractions are easily accessed from the hotel. Here’s a selection for you:

  • The city is home to a multitude of shopping destinations, for example Eastgate Shopping Centre, Mutindwa Market, and Nairobi Jericho Market. There are lots of bars, cafés, and restaurants too, as well as parks and gardens for a little respite.
  • The National Museum is well worth a visit, as it showcases a fascinating collection of artefacts showing the development of Kenya over time.
  • Other attractions include the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and, of course, Nairobi National Park, where you can look out for lion, leopard, rhino, buffalo, giraffe, zebra, antelopes, and about 400 species of bird!
