"A fabulous location, chic tented accommodation, varied activities including some of the best walking safaris in the Mara – Naboisho has all these, plus super service standards! Managers Roelof and Helen Schutte are fantastic and welcoming hosts with tons of experience and they lead a top-notch team."

OVERVIEW:

The camp is owned and operated by Asilia, a company renowned for its enduring interest in wildlife conservation and habitat restoration as well as, of course, its high-quality accommodation. Overall, Naboisho is a stylish and luxury camp in an awesome area – and definitely a YZ favorite! Naboisho combines well with sister camp Rekero – and both are first-rate!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Naboisho Camp is situated within the Conservancy of the same name, to the north-east of the Maasai Mara National Reserve.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT NABOISHO CAMP:

Naboisho’s communal areas are housed inside a characterful building with stone walls and a homely thatch roof. This structure is open-fronted, providing superb views over the surrounding landscape of savanna grasses and abundant trees. The lounge, with fireplace, is very comfortable – plenty of well-cushioned sofas and armchairs around coffee tables for a laidback social vibe. The palette is natural and earthy tones, very easy on the eye! On the other side of the building is the dining area, containing two long tables and smart upright chairs for meals together. There is also a tea-and-coffee station and a well-stocked drinks cabinet! The inner rooms flow out onto a delightful deck with further comfortable seating – this is a great spot to sit and observe passing wildlife. Naboiso Camp has recently included a new addition of a saltwater infinity pool, complete with poolside bar, interior dining and lounge area.

The guest accommodation at Naboisho comprises nine tented suites, including a family unit of two connecting tents. All tents are airy and spacious, designed to combine traditional safari style and modern attention to detail. They are spaced well apart from each other amid the bush, each mounted on a sturdy plinth with a few steps up onto a small veranda. Just inside the entrance, there is a seating area with a pair of comfy wicker chairs, a log table and a day bed. The bedroom is separated from this area by curtains and has either a double bed or twin beds in addition to bedside tables. Finally, the en-suite facilities are located behind the tent, in the open air – here you will find a flush toilet, twin washbasins, and a double rainfall shower! This is all very high-spec, with wooden decking, potted plants and kerosene lanterns.

ACTIVITIES AT NABOISHO CAMP:

  • The camp operates game drives by day and by night in the Conservancy.
  • With its rippling plains bordered by woodland valleys, this region supports a wonderful wealth of wildlife – lion, leopard, elephant, giraffe, zebra, impala, ostrich, vultures and the splendid secretary bird for starters!
  • The river is home to numerous crocodiles and hippos.
  • Drives are done in the Maasai Mara National Reserve too, which has its own attractions – not least the wildebeest Great Migration from July to November!
  • Naboisho’s game walks are also amazing, with the guides providing expert attention to detail while accompanying guests through the areas to south and west of camp.
  • Additionally, it is possible to visit a local Maasai visit, with the $20 camp charge for this activity given to the Conservancy’s community liaison officer. This is an excellent opportunity to find out about the Maasai way of life!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
