OVERVIEW:

Formerly known as Mutamaiyu House, Mugie House is now managed by the team at Governors’, guaranteeing first-class safari experiences! The Governors’ Camp Collection includes Governors’ Camp and Little Governors’ Camp in Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve, and Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge in Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda. Mugie is made up of one large communal house and nine guest cottages, all redesigned by Chris Payne, who also styled Sabyinyo, Loldia, and Il Moran. Mugie can be booked on an individual or exclusive basis. The price of your stay will include the accommodation, all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, and a laundry service. The house is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Mugie House is situated in the Mugie Wildlife Conservancy, in North Laikipia, on top of a hill! The conservancy is located almost 300 kilometers from Nairobi, and it’s accessible via flight from the city’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MUGIE HOUSE:

Guest accommodation consists of beautiful cottages, all constructed using timber, stone, and makuti thatch. The cottages have been individually furnished and very well appointed overall. Each has a bedroom containing a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, some art and artifacts, and a warming fireplace for chilly nights! The en-suite facilities comprise a flush toilet, washbasin, shower, and bath. One cottage is offered as a suite and boasts its own plunge pool, perfect for honeymooners, and there is also a family cottage with an ensuite double and twin room that are interconnected by a spacious lounge area with a wide veranda and private plunge pool. Many of the cottages have Wi-Fi access, and all have spectacular views! The cottages face south-east and look out over olive forests and sprawling grasslands as far as majestic Mount Kenya beyond.

The communal facilities at Mugie House can be found in the main house. Surrounded by olive trees, this is a charming timber-and-stone structure with a thatch roof. Inside, the communal lounge offers super-comfy sofas and armchairs around a central coffee table, occasional tables set with elegant lighting, bookshelves full of interesting reading material, a few intriguing artifacts, and a lovely cozy fireplace. The dining room has a fireplace too, in addition to a large table flanked by smart upright chairs, an impressive chandelier, and wide windows with views over the wildlife conservancy. Mugie also has numerous verandas, perfect for relaxing and marveling at the scenery! The house’s grounds are beautifully kept, and they include a sparkling cliff-top swimming pool and shaded alfresco lounging and dining space, with similar views to the rooms.
