"The views from camp are superb, whilst the price is attractive... however, with any camp on the escarpment the drive down onto the valley floor involves a border check and a frustrating amount of time wasted. Not a YZ favorite."

OVERVIEW:

Kilima Camp is owned privately and the passion of the ownership runs through everything you see during your stay, from the quality of the bedrooms, the elegance of the communal areas, and the attentiveness of staff. The camp is an excellent option for travelers considering a trip to the Mara Triangle and really is breathtaking in the level of luxury it provides!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

To reach the camp, visitors travel up a steep road, through a wooded valley, to the top of the Oloololo Escarpment, where Kilima provides safari chic and incredible views. In Swahili, the name of the camp means ‘mountain’ or ‘little hill’ – and you will be blown away by the views of the Mara River and Maasai Mara plains as you sit and relax at Kilima!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KILIMA CAMP:

First impressions often count – and guests are astounded on first sight of the entrance and communal areas within Kilima, due to the levels of luxury and relaxation on offer. The large main building is centrally located and offers a space to unwind with food, drinks, games or reading areas. A relatively newly built bar and lounge has an outlook over the plains and river of the Mara – many an hour can be spent with a whiskey or glass of wine in hand, as you look out at the wildlife, and later on admire the stars! Either side of the bar are two restaurants, both buffet style and with one featuring a fire, for those cooler winter evenings. A small spa area invites visitors in for a variety of treatments to soothe the soul. Outside holds a special atmosphere, with a bush bar and campfire offering guests the chance to relax with nature and stoke the fire while sharing stories of their day with fellow guests and staff members alike. Take drinks out to watch the sun go down and then sit back with the stars above – it is a magical experience!

Kilima’s tented accommodation has been designed with tranquillity, luxury and space in mind. Twelve classic tents offer space for three guests with plenty of individual room, with three other deluxe tents being more suitable for families as they are larger in size and can accommodate up to five people. All of the rooms are spread out across the hill so you will have plenty of privacy – and each has a veranda with views of the river and plains below, the perfect place to look up at the night sky with your loved ones. It is like having your very own private sanctuary! The tents all have wooden flooring, comfortable furnishings and an interior bathroom, which is light and airy. After a day out in the wild, it is important to rest fully in readiness for the next day –these luxurious tents will go a long way to giving you the perfect night’s sleep, so you are well prepared for your next adventure!

ACTIVITIES AT KILIMA CAMP:

The Maasai Mara is well known for a wide variety of activities wherever you are staying, but Kilima Camp provides myriad opportunities to suit all budgets and all interests.

  • The primary focus is, of course, on guided vehicle safari, heading out early morning into the Mara Triangle to view wildlife and a vast array of animals. That is not all, though. You can book onto a walking safari with a local guide for an interpretative nature walk with an armed guard – these can include bush breakfasts and picnics, so you can eat out in the wild and live dangerously! You can ride a horse into the Triangle on safari or take a night-time drive onto the plains.
  • Most incredibly of all, you are in the perfect location to try a balloon safari and see the wild from high above! Kilima Camp also offers excursions into the local community, visiting villages and schools and being treated to the local traditions and warm hospitality.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
