“Sirai Beach is British billionaire Michael Spencer’s private home on the Kenyan coast. To say this property is exceptional is an understatement; Sirai Beach is one of Africa’s very best beach properties we’ve visited. Billionaires tend to build things that way….”

OVERVIEW:

True barefoot luxury is hard to find in this part of Africa… but despite the absence of a quality beach, Sirai is still one of the finest coastal properties in Kenya! Perched atop a cliff in Kilifi and with astounding views out across the Indian Ocean, this six-room property has all the facilities and jaw-dropping quality of a Sultan’s palace. If walking out onto a sandy beachfront is high on your wish list, this might not be for you. However, as an exclusive-use home, it sets new levels in terms of luxury and service. The tropical grounds are extensive, the facilities are top notch, the food is amazing, and the welcome is warm. Designed and built specifically to complement the fantastic Sirai House in the Borana Conservancy, thereby creating an unbeatable private beach–safari combination, it certainly accomplishes this aim.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Set amid tranquil tropical gardens and located high on the clifftops in Kilifi, Sirai Beach has imperious views in a wonderful setting. It’s a 2-hour drive from Mombasa and 1 hour from Malindi. But assuming you’re booking the entirety of the property for 12 people, it’s well worth chartering a flight into Kilifi Town airstrip, which is just 5 minutes away.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SIRAI BEACH:

As the property has only six massive suites, the emphasis is on privacy and seclusion – you have a citadel all to yourself. Each bedroom has panoramic views, is elegantly appointed, is stylish to a tee… and all have been specially designed to catch the warm breeze coming off the azure waters below. Suites 1 and 2 are adjacent to each other, as are 3 and 4, while suite 5 is a self-contained cottage on its own. No expense has been spared – the cotton sheets are from the Nile Valley, the bathroom products are made with essential oils from a local community project in Nanyuki, and temperatures are kept perfectly comfortable thanks to the silent ceiling fan and aircon combination. The Master Suite, number 6, is even better still. It makes up part of the house itself and is enormous – your steps for the day will be completed with a trip to the bathroom.

The main house is guarded by ancient baobabs, with wide open verandas looking out to sea and the stunning infinity pool below. The dining is superb, featuring fresh ingredients from local markets and fish caught on the day, all prepared by the Head Chef, Thoya. You can choose where you eat from one of the many amazing locations dotted around the property, with both al-fresco and indoor dining options available. There’s also a kitchen area for guests, should you wish to fix your own snacks or drinks (just in case you become tired of being waited on!). There’s also a world-class wine cellar if you’d like to branch out from the house selection.

In terms of facilities, everything you could need is on hand – gym, spa, pool, media room, tennis court, verandas all facing the sea. It really is an amazing place, for those lucky enough to call it home for a time!

ACTIVITIES AT SIRAI BEACH:

Apparently people often arrive here with a long wish list of excursions… and end up canceling them all, due to the magnificence of the property and the wealth of onsite activities! Some of the things to do listed below come at additional cost, so please chat to one of our Kenya experts to find out what is included with the cost of the house.

  • Deep sea fishing, whale and dolphin watching

    - Sirai has its very own 38-foot boat from which staff run trips out into the deep water. Catch a fish and have it prepared for your supper… or tea, depending on size!
  • Snorkeling, paddle boarding, kayaking

    - There are rather lovely “glass-bottomed” kayaks here, complete with sun shades. Enjoy a wealth of coral and other things to see… your guides will take you to the best areas.
  • Other watersports

    - Sailing, kite-surfing, wake-boarding, water-skiing, jet skiing, windsurfing are all available and bookable while on your stay.
  • Dhow sunset cruises

    - These are a must-do! A trip out to Kilifi Creek as the sun sets, on a boat stocked with sundowners and nibbles, is a real highlight.
  • Golf and horse-riding

    - PGA Baobab Course at Vipingo Ridge is only 30 minutes’ drive away, and regarded as the best course in East Africa. As it’s located high on a ridge, playing conditions are cooler than most coastal courses and the views are spectacular! Riding for all levels is also available at Vipingo.
