The Bauer Family Vacation to Tanzania

YZ clients the Bauer family recently returned from a vacation to Tanzania. They explored Lake Manyara and the Ngorongoro Crater, spotted the Big Five in the Serengeti, and relaxed along the white sands of Zanzibar. Here’s their firsthand account:

This summer, we went on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the beautiful landscapes of Tanzania, to experience the rich wildlife and nature of Africa. We started off our trip by landing into Kilimanjaro with a splendid view of the mountain and a gorgeous sunset as we drove to our lodge.

Our first day was filled with the exciting wonders of the Lake Manyara National Park, where we encountered lots of animals – from baboons to elephants, giraffes and zebras. During this surreal experience, we were accompanied by our fabulous guide, who gave us a great tour of the park. We really enjoyed this, as we felt immersed into nature. Our two-night stay at Isoitok Camp was very enjoyable and allowed us to meet members of the Maasai community as well as enjoy a natural experience in the wild away from the bustle of the city and the stresses of everyday life.

On our second day, we drove to the Ngorongoro Crater, which was a splendid sight albeit we arrived early in the morning and it was rather cold due to the altitude! In this huge landscape we further got to experience close contact with animals, such as hyenas, hippos and even lions, which was a breath-taking experience for the whole family. The sheer vastness of the landscape was overwhelming and we really enjoyed this part of our trip. We were pretty tired after two days of seeing these incredible animals, but little did we know the best was yet to come…

After two shaky flights in small 12-seater airplanes, we finally landed on the plains of the northern Serengeti, where we set off on an exciting game drive to the camp. We were shocked by the vastness of the plains and the beautiful landscape that was so different to what we had previously seen.

We encountered hundreds and hundreds of wildebeests and a plethora of animals from tiny lizards to huge towering giraffes munching on the greenery. Our time in the mobile camp was very enjoyable as we were greeted to traditional Swahili songs and kind staff who made the stay enjoyable.

For the next two days in the Serengeti, we relished the spectacular show of nature we saw, from leopards, baby lions, rhinos and zebras, to cheetahs eating a carcass and the many vultures swooping down to finish the job. We loved seeing the huge elephants and the hungry crocodiles waiting for the wildebeests in the Mara river as they migrated into Kenya. The spectacle did not finish at the camp as we arrived in the evening to gorgeous crimson sunsets and a herd of elephants outside our tent, as well as other animals that we could hear roaming around our tent at night. We loved every minute of it and were so happy to be able to see the Big Five!

Reluctantly, we left the beautiful Serengeti for the white beaches of Zanzibar, where we spent 5 days relaxing in the sun after our jam-packed safari. Altogether, it was a truly immersive experience into the natural world, we really enjoyed the excellent service provided by the staff and we appreciate the organisation of Yellow Zebra that made our trip go smoothly, with no stress.
