Days 1-4 South Luangwa National Park (Mfuwe)

201003 RPS 664

On Day 1, you will fly out to Mfuwe, for Nkwali Camp. This property is set on the banks of the Luangwa river, within its very own reserve. The communal lodge is a classic wood, stone, and thatch structure. Inside, there is a lounge, a library, a bar, and a relaxed atmosphere! A thatched dining space and a spacious swimming pool are found in Nkwali’s grounds. You will stay in one of the camp’s six en-suite bamboo-and-thatch chalets. Each is open fronted, so you can watch elephant crossing the river and quenching their thirst without even going on safari! However, venture out into the reserve, as well as the national park, and you will be richly rewarded with sightings of further elephant, as well as lion, leopard, wild dog, plenty of plains game, and hundreds of bird species. Despite the queues that tend to form around the nearest gate into the South Luangwa, access is no problem as Nkwali uses its own pontoon! Village visits are available too.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, all safari activities, and a laundry service.

It is the South Luangwa’s oldest camp, and it has a real sense of history. Pleasingly rustic in appearance, the communal lodge is positioned next to an immense termite mound! Inside the lodge, there is a comfy lounge and bar, ideal for spending some time getting to know your fellow travellers. A short distance from the lodge, there is a hide, providing brilliant photo opportunities! Nsefu’s guest accommodation comprises six rondavels, or round houses. These are pleasantly furnished, and each boasts a private veranda. Activities on offer during the shoulder season at Nsefu are day and night game drives, and walking safaris. Wildlife highlights here include lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and over 450 bird species!
