This private group trip involves two areas within Zambia’s fantastic South Luangwa National Park. It begins in Mfuwe and reaches a grand finale in Nsefu! Both areas contain a wealth of wildlife, viewed on game drives and walking safaris. And you will travel between camps by boat, so you can experience the breathtaking beauty of the River Luangwa!

In Mfuwe, you will stay at Nkwali Camp. This property is situated just outside the South Luangwa, with excellent access into the national park. And your second destination is Nsefu Camp, the South Luangwa’s oldest property! Both camps are owned and operated by the first-rate Robin Pope Safaris.

Days 1-4 South Luangwa National Park (Mfuwe)

On the first day of your group trip, you will fly out to Mfuwe for a few days at Nkwali Camp. This classic camp has a wonderful location on the banks of the River Luangwa, within a private reserve. Its communal spaces are housed in an open-sided timber, stone, and thatch structure, and they include a lounge, a library, and a bar. Outside, there is a thatched dining space, as well as a spacious swimming pool! The guest accommodation comprises six bamboo-and-thatch chalets, all with well-appointed en-suite facilities and lovely river views. The chalets are open fronted, so you can relax while watching elephant cross the river and occasional big cats roaming the grounds. Nkwali offers game drives and walking safaris, and you can expect to see more elephant, more big cats, and maybe even wild dog as well as plenty of plains game. There are also 450 bird species! Other activities include taking in a little culture on a village tour, and visiting the local market.

Days 5-7 South Luangwa National Park (Nsefu)

On Day 5, you will board a boat and set off from Nkwali to Nsefu! This unusual way of travelling between camps is wonderful for enjoying the River Luangwa and observing its wildlife. Nsefu Camp is positioned on a sweeping meander of the river, guaranteeing beautiful views. The oldest camp in the South Luangwa, it is perfect for keen photographers as it boasts not only those vistas from camp but also great opportunities for close-ups from a hide. Nsefu’s communal lodge has an interesting position, next to a massive termite mound! The lodge interiors include a comfortable lounge and bar. Guest accommodation consists of six en-suite rondavels, or round houses, all furnished in a simple yet appealing style. Activities focus on checking out the area’s wildlife, on day and night game drives, and walking safaris. Highlights are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, giraffe, hippo, and over 450 types of bird! Cultural tours are also available.

On Day 8, you will fly from Mfuwe to Lusaka and connect on to your international flights home.
