Tanzania’s northern circuit is as good as safari gets. Epic big-game viewing, the Great Migration, active volcanoes, the Maasai, the Serengeti, and the Ngorongoro Crater! This safari takes some beating; it’s one of our most popular trips.

We use three properties for this trip – The Plantation Lodge, Serengeti Safari Camp North, and Matlai Boutique Hotel. The Plantation Lodge is situated just outside the town of Karatu and provides a fabulous base for checking out not only Lake Manyara National Park but the Ngorongoro Crater too! Serengeti Safari Camp North offers authentic accommodation and some amazing safari experiences. It was the first mobile camp in the national park! Finally, Zanzibar’s Matlai Boutique Hotel has everything you could desire for a relaxing beach break at the end of your holiday.

On the way to The Plantation Lodge, you’ll enjoy an expertly guided game drive in Lake Manyara National Park! The property is also conveniently located for guests to go on vehicle safaris in the Ngorongoro Crater. Plenty of on-site experiences are offered too, such as guided walks among coffee plantations and farm visits. Once you’ve arrived at Serengeti Safari Camp, your focus will be following the Great Migration on game drives. The months from July to October are a dramatic time to be in the park, as the huge herds of wildebeest, zebra, and gazelles push north and cross crocodile-filled rivers in their search for food. And Matlai provides beach relaxation, watersports, land sports, and various excursions around the idyllic island of Zanzibar.

*Please note, this is just one example of a trip we could design for you. We tailor-make safari vacations that take you to the real Africa – no readymade tours or set departures. Do get in touch with one of our experts today to start creating your bespoke itinerary!*

Days 1-2 NGORONGORO CONSERVATION AREA

On Day 1 of your trip, you’ll touch down at Kilimanjaro International Airport (KIA), receiving a VIP Meet and Greet. From here, you’ll fly to Lake Manyara Airport, where you’ll be met by a private guide and private vehicle. The guide and the vehicle will be with you throughout your stay in the Ngorongoro region! You’ll transfer privately to The Plantation Lodge, enjoying a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park on the way. Lake Manyara is one of Africa’s most scenic safari areas, with its expanse of water and Rift Valley backdrop. Among the wildlife highlights here are tree-climbing lions and vast flocks of flamingo! The lodge is a charming little property, situated in a coffee plantation within the foothills of the Ngorongoro Crater itself. A colonial-style building houses the lounge and dining areas, and is set within exceedingly well-kept gardens that are perfect for al-fresco meals and simply wandering around. You’ll stay in a Standard Room, which features a comfortable bedroom, seating area with fireplace, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and lovely garden views. During your second day here, you’ll head down into the crater for a vehicle safari. You’ll likely to see all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – in addition to numerous smaller predators and herbivores, and lots of birds! Plantation also offers guided walks among the coffee plantations and visits to a nearby farm.

Board basis and activities:
Full-board accommodation, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, private game drives in Lake Manyara National Park and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, and a laundry service.

Come Day 3, you’ll return to Lake Manyara Airport via private road transfer and fly to Kogatende Airstrip in the North Serengeti. Once you’ve landed, you’ll have a shared road transfer to Serengeti Safari Camp North. This property has the distinction of being the oldest mobile camp in the area – and we think it’s one of the most adventurous too! There’s also a touch of romance in being on a classic explorers’ safari. Unlike other mobile camps, this one travels hundreds of miles per year to ensure that guests enjoy the most exhilarating sights of the Great Migration. This means that you are guaranteed a front-row seat for watching one of the greatest shows on Earth! Guest accommodation at Serengeti Safari Camp comprises six walk-in tents, all with eco-flush toilet and bucket shower. There’s an informal vibe here and the guiding is excellent. At the end of each day, there’s usually dinner around the camp fire, with everyone sharing safari stories.

Board basis and activities:
All-inclusive accommodation, featuring all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, shared game drives, bush picnics, transfers between the camp and Kogatende Airstrip, and a laundry service.
