If you’re a fan of elephants, you’ll love this trip! Starting in Nairobi, it continues on to Amboseli National Park and the Samburu National Reserve, where you can enjoy a range of ele-activities – and all at great value!

Your vacation begins at Ole Sereni, in Nairobi. This hotel is positioned very close to the city’s international airport, and it’s adjacent to Nairobi National Park too! After three days here, you’ll travel to Satao Elerai, an eco-friendly deluxe camp situated to the south-east of Amboseli. And your final stop is Elephant Bedroom Camp, which has a lovely location on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river in the Samburu National Reserve.

While you’re at Ole Sereni, you’ll have opportunities to take tours in the national park and to visit an exciting variety of the city’s attractions, not least the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, where you’ll meet hand-reared elephants and other wildlife! Satao Elerai offers expertly guided game drives and walks, both in the camp’s own conservancy and in the elephant-tastic national park of Amboseli. Vehicle and walking safaris are also the focus of activities from Elephant Bedroom, with the grey guys the stars of the show. Both bushcamps provide cultural experiences too!

Days 1-2 Nairobi

On Day 1 of your vacation, you’ll touch down at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), receiving a VIP Meet and Greet. From here, you’ll transfer privately and very quickly to Ole Sereni, as the hotel is barely a stone’s throw from the airport. It’s a very short distance from Nairobi National Park too, and its main restaurant and bar boast amazing vistas over the plains! Other communal spaces include a spa and a spacious swimming pool. You’ll stay in a Superior Room, which features a comfy double bed, smart en-suite facilities, and exhilarating city views. From this superb base, you can head out on a number of excursions to see some local attractions. National park tours offer opportunities to see four of the Big Five, numerous smaller predators and herbivores, and plentiful birdlife! You can also visit the Giraffe Centre and the Karen Blixen Museum. However, the highlight for ele-fans will be a tour of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, which operates the world’s most successful orphan elephant rescue and rehabilitation programme.

B&B accommodation, including a visit to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust (by virtue of an elephant adoption included in the trip price, which allows access to 5pm feeding time and vehicle for the day).

Days 3-5 Amboseli National Park

On the fourth day, you’ll travel to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport by private road transfer and fly to Amboseli Airport. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll have a shared road transfer to Satao Elerai. This camp’s site is slightly elevated, making for spectacular vistas over sprawling savanna! The comfortable lounge and dining areas are accessed from Reception via a bridge over a fish pond, and the dining room flows out onto a delightful terrace with waterhole views. Your accommodation will consist of a Deluxe Mountain Facing Tent, which offers a pleasant bedroom, en-suite full bathroom, and private veranda with spectacular views! Activities include morning, afternoon, and full-day vehicle safaris in Elerai Conservancy and in Amboseli National Park. In both settings, you can look out for lion, leopard, buffalo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, various antelopes, and of course impressive populations of elephant! There are hundreds of bird species too. Night drives in the conservancy are also available, as are walking safaris and cultural experiences such as meeting the local people and learning how to survive in the bush.

Days 6-8 Samburu National Reserve

Come Day 7, you’ll have a shared road transfer back to Amboseli Airport. You’ll return to Wilson Airport in order to fly to Samburu Oryx airstrip, from where you’ll have another shared transfer to Elephant Bedroom Camp. Beautifully located on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro river, deep within the Samburu National Reserve, this camp also benefits from the shade of immense acacias and doum palms as well as an interesting Africa-meets-Europe style to its interiors. These include a comfy lounge, a characterful dining room, and a well-stocked bar. In the grounds, there’s a picnic site and a viewing platform above a waterhole that’s very popular with elephants! Guest accommodation consists of 12 Meru-style tents, each offering a pleasant bedroom, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and a private veranda complete with plunge pool. Things to do here comprise expertly guided game drives, walks, and cultural visits. The reserve is home to four of the Big Five, cheetah, hyena, wild dog, lots of plains game, and a wealth of birdlife. Cultural activities feature enjoying entertainments put on by Samburu warriors! However, the biggest thrill for ele lovers will be watching the grey giants splashing about in the waterhole.

All-inclusive accommodation, featuring all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, two shared game drives daily, sundowners, transfers between the camp and Samburu Oryx airstrip, and a laundry service. Extras include exclusive use of safari vehicle ($395/day), bush breakfast ($45), bush dinner ($45), and additional lunch or picnic lunch ($30). 

On the last day, you’ll return to Samburu Oryx airstrip via shared road transfer and fly back to Wilson Airport. Here you’ll have use of a half-day vehicle, enabling you to visit local curio shops or simply relax and enjoy dinner before heading to JKIA in good time for your flight/s home.
