  • Days 1–4 : OKAVANGO DELTA
  • Days 4–7 : THE PANS
  • Guide Price : CAD$18,661 per person
  • Duration : 6 nights
  • Countries : Botswana

The waterways of the Okavango Delta contrast perfectly with the salt pans of the Makgadikgadi desert. This trip showcases Botswana’s outstanding diversity while keeping you in two of YZ’s favorite camps, Shinde and San Camp.

Specific highlights of this Botswana safari:

  • For those looking for something different from a traditional safari
  • Stunning contrasts between lush vegetation and Kalahari salt pans
  • Meeting meerkats in the desert
  • Trying out both land- and water-based activities
  • San Camp is only open during dry season – April to October

Overview of the suggested Botswana safari lodges and activities:

To get the most out of Botswana as a destination, this safari is divided in half. The first part of the trip is full of green and lush landscapes with big game and traditional activities. The second part of the itinerary places you in the middle of Botswana surrounded by saltpans and Kalahari plains. Here, the landscape is extraordinarily beautiful, and the wildlife is niche.

In Botswana’s famous Okavango Delta, you’ll spend three nights at Shinde Camp, a classic camp in the northern region. Shinde offers expertly guided game drives, night drives, walking safaris, motorboat trips, mokoro excursions, and, from March to December, fishing too!

Then, you’ll spend the last three nights at San Camp, which lies on the edge of one of the world’s largest salt pans and offers unique game-viewing experiences along with cultural experiences in the company of San Bushmen.

Days 1–4 OKAVANGO DELTA

Cheetah wildlife, Shinde Camp, Okavango Delta, Botswana

On arrival into Botswana, you’ll fly to the northern region of the Okavango Delta, for your stay at Shinde. This camp is set on its own island too, on the edge of Shinde Lagoon. The scenery here is breathtaking – waterways and open grasslands! Shinde’s communal lounge and dining room are housed under canvas in a multi-tiered building, which has a treehouse feel to it and really makes the most of the views. This camp is perfectly positioned to offer both land and water-based activities, throughout the year. They include day and night game drives, walking safaris, motorboat rides, mokoro excursions, and fishing. Among the wildlife species you might see are lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, zebra, giraffe, wildebeest, antelopes, hippo, and a vast variety of waterbirds!

Days 4–7 THE PANS

Bushmen experience, San Camp, Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, Botswana

After exploring the Okavango Delta, you will move down to the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, a truly unique destination that gives you the chance of seeing uncommon species such as meerkats, who have been habituated over the last couple of years. Super-stylish, San Camp has a unique Bedouin style – think white, billowy pavilions, campaign-style furniture, and Persian rugs. The camp has a lounge tent, dining area, library, small museum, yoga pavilion, and plunge pool. It’s a great base for visiting the resident meerkat clans, and other unique activities include quad-biking across the pans, horse riding, night drives, and educational cultural walks with San Bushmen. With three nights here, it’s an exciting end to your stay in this spectacular part of the world.
