The adventure begins at a camp called Okuti. This stylish little property has a lovely riverside location within the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve! Your next stop is the Okavango Delta’s Footsteps Camp, which offers rustic accommodation and a very special family-friendly safari via its Young Explorers programme. Finally, you’ll head to Dinaka, in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. This is an authentic camp in a thrillingly remote setting! All three properties are operated by Ker & Downey, one of Botswana’s finest safari companies.

During your stay at Okuti, you’ll enjoy vehicle safaris with your private guide, as well as motorboat rides. There are plenty of activities especially for kids here too. Footsteps Camp offers making bows-and-arrows, identifying tracks, cooking over a fire, and much more, all through the Young Explorers programme. And Dinaka provides morning and afternoon/evening game drives, guided bush walks, and viewing from hides as well.

Days 1-2 Moremi Game Reserve

On Day 1 of your vacation, you’ll touch down at Maun Airport and board a flight to Xakanaxa Airstrip. Once you’ve landed, you’ll have a shared road transfer to Okuti, in the wildlife-rich Moremi Game Reserve. This camp is positioned beside the Maunachira river, with comfy lounge and dining areas that overlook the Xakanaxa lagoon. At the front of the communal building, there’s a spacious deck – this is great for game viewing, and it includes a plunge pool! Your accommodation at this camp comprises a well-appointed family mosasa, or reed house. This is made up of two bedrooms and a shared bathroom. The mosasa is elevated above ground level on smart teak decking, so everyone can marvel at the views across the water! This area of Botswana is home to abundant wildlife, including big cats, herds of herbivores, and vast flocks of water birds. Activities on offer from Okuti consist of game drives and motorboat excursions, with lots of things to do for kids available on request through the Ker & Downey Young Explorers programme.

Days 3-5 Okavango Delta

The adventure continues at Footsteps Camp. Come Day 3, you’ll return to Xakanaxa Airstrip from Okuti via shared road transfer and fly to Shinde Airstrip, before having another shared transfer to the camp. Footsteps is situated in the Shinde Concession, which, like Moremi, boasts impressive concentrations of wildlife! You’ll book the property on an exclusive basis and take part in the Young Explorers programme, assisted by a specialist family guide. The camp itself has a very rustic feel, its lounge and dining areas set up in a classic mess tent. Three Meru-style tents provide guest accommodation, each featuring comfy twin beds, ample storage space, and en-suite facilities comprising flush toilet, washstand, and nifty bucket shower! Young Explorers activities include making bows and arrows, identifying tracks around camp, and learning to cook over a fire. Children can play football with camp staff too. The adults are welcome to enjoy guided walks and vehicle safaris while the kids are kept entertained, to check out the local lion, hyena, wild dog, elephant, giraffe, zebra, birdlife, and much more besides!

Days 6-8 Central Kalahari Game Reserve

For the final part of your vacation, you’ll travel from Footsteps Camp to Shinde Airstrip via shared road transfer, fly to Dinaka Airstrip, and have a shared transfer to Dinaka. This camp is situated in its own reserve, within the remote northern region of the Central Kalahari. Its communal lounge and dining areas boast amazing vistas over a waterhole, so you can enjoy wildlife sightings while relaxing and tucking in to delicious meals. You’ll stay in a family tent. Also offering waterhole views, this option features two bedrooms linked by a well-appointed shower room. Dinaka provides a superb base from which to head out on expertly guided game drives and walks. The reserve covers 200 square kilometres and it’s home to lion, leopard, cheetah, hyena, and a fine assortment of herbivores. There are hundreds of birds too! You can also enjoy close encounters with wildlife from the camp’s hides, some of which are set up near waterholes. It’ll be a memorable end to your Botswana safari.
