Botswana in November

Emerging from dry season, November tends to retain the heat initially, becoming increasingly humid as the rains resume – and the first part of the month sees a lot of wildlife activity around permanent water sources.

What's the weather going to be like in Botswana in November?

  • Days can be cooled slightly by the rains, but these make only a brief appearance – generally they take the form of heavy yet short showers during the day
  • We’re at dry season’s end, and just starting the green season
  • Temperatures in the afternoon are comfortable, at an average of 77 degrees only when the rains arrive
  • It can vary, so we recommend light layers and waterproofs
  • The humidity can rise and fall, reaching 80 per cent in the morning and 30 per cent in the afternoon

What are the highlights of visiting Botswana in November?

  • Reasonable availability of safari camps and lodges
  • Rates are low – there’s superb value
  • It’s an interesting time for travellers who enjoy variations in weather
  • As we’re on the way out of dry season, there are fewer mosquitoes than in rainier months
  • Before the rains begin, wildlife viewing is excellent, with species continuing to gather around water sources
  • There are opportunities to photograph predators and herbivores alike as they cluster at waterholes

Any lowlights?

  • Some safari properties close
  • It can get very hot this month
  • Humidity levels can be high
  • Some wildlife, particularly herds of elephant and buffalo, begins to scatter through parks once sufficient rain enables them to find more than a few reliable water sources
