Xigera is a particularly attractive camp, however a stay here is usually combined with a stay at a "dry" camp as there are less mammals around in "wet" camps, and game drives are only possible when the waters are low. *Please note, at the moment the camp is closed for a major rebuild. It's due to re-open in early June 2020, and as soon as a member of our team has visited we'll bring you all the details!*
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp lies south-west of Chief's Island in the Moremi Game Reserve.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The 10 tented rooms are raised on platforms and have wonderful views of the lagoon and surrounding floodplains. They are luxuriously furnished and have en suite facilities and an outdoor shower. Wooden walkways connect them to the living area and continue on to the neighbouring island. One lovely touch is a special sandpit built into the footbridge which captures the pawprints of nocturnal visitors so that they can be identified in camp on the following morning.
Although Xigera is mainly a wet camp with mokoro (a dug-out canoe) and motorboat safaris throughout the year, game drives are possible when the water level permits– this is usually between October and April, however in drier years game drives may be possible throughout the year.
Xigera is particularly good for bird-watchers as it is home to a host of interesting raptors and waterbirds including Pels Fishing Owl, Slaty Egret and Wattled Crane.
