“Tuludi is the latest addition to the Natural Selection properties in the Khwai Private Reserve and is luxury at its best. The views are simply spectacular, ranging far across the floodplains.”

OVERVIEW:

Tuludi is owned and run by Natural Selection. Aiming to deliver unique and exceptional safari experiences, this company operates a great range of camps and lodges within private wilderness areas across South Africa, Namibia, and Angola, as well as Botswana. The name Tuludi is a Tswana word referencing the colors or markings of a leopard, in this case the female leopard who sauntered past partners of Natural Selection while they were trying to find a suitable site for the camp! Accommodation at Tuludi is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, all drinks, all activities, expert guiding, park entry fees, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via 15 minutes’ road transfer from Banoka airstrip. It’s situated in the southern region of the Khwai Private Reserve, within a grove of big leadwood trees.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TULUDI:

Guest accommodation consists of seven rooms, including one room for family use. Raised up into the treeline on wooden decking, each is approached along elevated wooden walkways. Every standard-size room offers an impressive 60 square meters, and the spacious feel is enhanced by a high-pitched roof.  Inside, you’ll find an airy bedroom, with either a double bed or twin beds paired with overhead air conditioning, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, storage furniture, and a minibar fridge. The palette, with its earthy tones, is simultaneously welcoming and sophisticated, and the walls are adorned with attractive wildlife artwork. The en-suite washroom contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins, indoor and outdoor showers, and a freestanding bathtub. Just outside, there’s a private deck, complete with sunken lounge area, private plunge pool, and amazing views! The family room benefits from all these features, in addition to a second bedroom with twin beds.

The communal lodge at Tuludi is accessed from the guest tents along the wooden walkways. It’s an impressive canvas-and-timber building, with three levels of decking. Starting on the middle level, there’s the lounge, featuring comfortable sofas and armchairs amidst various occasional tables, elegant lighting, and intriguing artifacts. This area is adjacent to the camp’s bar, which not only offers a fine assortment of beverages but is also furnished with a beautiful birdlife mural. In the dining area, chic tables-and-chairs are set up for delicious meals. This space flows out onto the wide deck, where guests can enjoy further relaxation, eating, drinking, and wildlife watching. Ascend to the upper level, and you’ll enter the treehouse library, a pleasant and peaceful spot for reading, 4 meters up into the trees. Returning to the middle level, a few steps lead down to a sunken seating area, and from here another walkway takes you to the fire-pit, which has safari chairs set up around a warming hearth. Finally, a second walkway, from the middle level, links the main lounge and dining areas with the camp’s very inviting swimming pool, with sunloungers alongside!

ACTIVITIES AT TULUDI:

Tuludi offers both land- and water-based activities, as follows:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - The Khwai Private Reserve covers 22,000 hectares of sprawling savanna, floodplains, forests, lagoons, and waterways. It’s home to a wealth of wildlife, not least the huge herds of elephant and buffalo that favor the plains around camp. Venture out on a morning or afternoon game drive, and you’ll likely see plenty of predators – lion, leopard, cheetah, and wild dog – as well as herbivores such as antelopes.
  • Walking safaris

    - Also accompanied by an expert guide, walks are fantastic for anyone interested in scrutinizing the smaller lives of the reserve, for example the plants, insects, and colorful birdlife.
  • Boat trips

    - Why not board a boat and explore Khwai’s waterways? You’ll enjoy sightings of elephant, hippo, and an assortment of waterbirds.
  • Mokoro excursions

    - A mokoro is a dug-out canoe. As this form of transport has no motor, you’ll be able to get really close to the wildlife!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
