OVERVIEW:
Rra Dinare, meaning ‘Father Buffalo’, is set in a private concession on the south-eastern side of the Okavango Delta. It overlooks the Gomoti River and flood plains, is a 100% eco-friendly development, and is part of the Kwando collection, a favorite with YZ. It can be booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks, scheduled activities, and a laundry service. Children aged 6–11 years incur a reduced rate – please contact us for details.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp is situated in the Santawani Concession, on the Delta’s south-eastern side and next to the famous Moremi Game Reserve. It’s accessed via 45 minutes’ game drive transfer from the nearest airstrip, which is 20 minutes’ flight from Maun and 1 hour 20 minutes’ flight from Kasane.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT RRA DINARE:
Guest accommodation consists of eight canvas tents, including one for family use. All are raised above ground level on wooden decking and linked to Rra Dinare’s communal structures along walkways. Set in the shade of trees, each has a private veranda at the front, with lovely views over the Gomoti river. Entering a standard tent, you’ll find a lounge area with a couple of armchairs and poufs, a large table, a small storage unit, a hanging rack, and a rug. Timber-framed double doors lead into the bedroom, which contains a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, and two comfy chairs. In the en-suite washroom, there’s a flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirrors over, another storage unit, and a walk-in shower. The family tent benefits from all the features of the standard tent, in addition to a second bedroom for children.
The communal spaces at Rra Dinare are mostly housed in an open-sided timber-and-thatch building. The lounge provides comfortable seating around coffee tables, and it extends into a covered deck, for particularly spectacular views! The camp’s bar is adjacent to the lounge, and it’s well-stocked with a selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. In the dining room, smart wooden upright chairs flank individual and communal tables. There’s a curio shop too, and a spacious deck incorporating a swimming pool. A short stroll from the main structure, there’s the fire-pit, which is the perfect place to enjoy a few drinks with your fellow guests and share some safari stories!
ACTIVITIES AT RRA DINARE:
The camp offers a great range of activities, all focused on seeing the local wildlife.
- The Santawani Concession covers well over 25,000 hectares of mopane woodland, seasonal water frontage, and riverine forest, and it’s home to an astounding variety of species. Highlights include all the Big Four – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – as well as smaller predators and herbivores such as cheetah, hyena, wild dog, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, an assortment of antelopes, and hippos.
- There are plenty of birds too, not least fish eagle, slaty egret, pygmy goose, southern carmine bee-eater, and the mysterious Pel’s fishing owl. Expertly guided game drives take place during the day and the night.
- The availability of mokoro excursions and walking safaris depends on the water levels at any time, so do contact a member of YZ to discuss the best times to visit Rra Dinare.
*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
