This is certainly a wildlife-rich region, bordering the famous Moremi Game Reserve. The camp is owned and operated by Wilderness Safaris, which runs camps and lodges throughout Safari Africa. The company’s portfolio for the Delta alone includes highlights such as Chitabe and DumaTau! Qorokwe will provide accommodation to suit most types of traveller, with access for disabled people available on request.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The camp will be reached via transfer from Maun. Guests will travel from the airport by safari vehicle or mokoro, depending on the Delta’s water levels. Qorokwe is situated on the banks of a lagoon, within its own concession of over 25,000 hectares.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT QOROWKE CAMP:
The interior is open plan, with comfortable seating around coffee tables, elegant dining tables and chairs, large cowhide rugs, wildlife artwork, and a well-stocked bar! From here, guests will have amazing views over the lagoon. The camp occupies a number of levels. Uppermost is the living and dining area, with steps at the side of the structure leading down to a deck featuring sunloungers and a pool. Finally, steps at the front will bring guests down to a second deck – this is home to a fantastic little fire-pit, surrounded by campaign chairs. Positioned just above the water, this will be wonderful for wildlife viewing and pre-dinner drinks!
Guest accommodation at Qorokwe consist of nine tented suites – eight standards and one family unit. Inside, there is a double bed, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, a separate seating area, and a couple of artefacts for that classic camp feel. They are en-suite with a bathtub that has been placed close to the window, providing the opportunity to observe the local wildlife while bathing! There is also a private veranda, set with comfy loungers and a small table for drinks.
ACTIVITIES AT QOROWKE CAMP:
The list of activities on offer at Qorokwe is exciting – game drives, guided walks, mokoro excursions, boat trips.
- As the concession has permanent water throughout the year, great game viewing will be possible whenever you choose to visit. The range of habitats in this region includes vast floodplains and patches of acacia woodland. Guests can expect to see lion, leopard, wild dog, hyena, and high concentrations of herbivores such as buffalo, giraffe, zebra, and antelopes.
- The birdlife is equally impressive, with more than 400 species recorded – among the specials of the region are black-breasted snake eagle, pink-throated longclaw, and the mysterious Pel’s fishing owl. Guests hoping for a closer look at the action will enjoy watching the wildlife from Qorokwe’s hide!
- And if you are particularly intrigued by the nocturnal life of the concession, you will relish going out on a night drive.
