"A seasonal, stripped-back tented camp experience with a strong focus on the safari on one of Botswana's prime game viewing areas. With peak viewing from July to October, it is a great option for anyone focussing on predators.

OVERVIEW:

Linyanti Expeditions is owned and run by African Bush Camps, it’ll be listed in a portfolio that features some of our favorite safari properties – for example, Somalisa Camp (Hwange N.P., Zimbabwe) and Thorntree River Lodge (Mosi-oa-Tunya N.P., Zambia). The price of your stay will include accommodation, all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all scheduled safari activities, transfers between the camp and the local airstrip, and a laundry service. The camp will be open from May to October every year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp will be accessed via road transfer from the local airstrip. Its setting is the Chobe Enclave region of the Linyanti, specifically on the waterfront and in the cooling shade of riverine trees.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT LINYANTI EXPEDITIONS:

Guest accommodation will consist of just six tents, set out in the treeline overlooking the river. Entered at ground level, each has an additional layer of canvas above it, providing a little extra shade. The computer-generated image shows a safari chair positioned on a porch area, which should prove a pleasant spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Inside, you’ll find a comfortable bedroom area, featuring a double bed or twin beds, bedside stands and lighting, and a couple of luggage racks. The palette appears fairly subtle, but we can make out a Persian-style rug on the floor, adding a few splashes of color. To one side of the bedroom, a large drape has been rolled back to reveal the en-suite facilities – flush toilet, washbasin, and bucket shower. This area also contains two storage units, both with shelves and hanging space. The shower is accessed through another partition, and it’s open to the sky. On the opposite side of the tent, one more partition leads out to a couple of daybeds, with just gauze separating them from the great outdoors. This looks like a sleep-out area! We’ll provide further information about the tents as soon as we can.

The communal spaces at Linyanti Expeditions will comprise a lounge tent, a kitchen/dining tent, and a fire-pit. The CGI shows the tents at right angles to each other, with the fire-pit positioned close by. In the lounge tent, a medley of seating surrounds a central coffee table, and behind one of the sofas there’s a tall shelf unit for books, lighting, and a few intriguing artifacts. In common with the guest tents, the palette involves both muted and vibrant colors – we particularly like the stripy cushions and the animal-print chairs! One side of the tent is rolled up, providing beautiful views, especially for guests seated in the porch formed by an outer canvas layer. Crossing to the kitchen/dining tent, we note one long table flanked by smart upright chairs, where everyone will eat together. This tent has an open fire too, so guests will be able to watch all the food preparation. Finally, there’s the al fresco fire-pit, the perfect place for enjoying a few drinks and sharing safari stories!

ACTIVITIES AT LINYANTI EXPEDITIONS:

Linyanti Expeditions will provide a thrilling range of activities, as follows:

  • Walking safaris

    - This will be the main thing to do from camp. A knowledgeable and experienced guide will accompany you on a voyage of discovery through the surrounding savanna and woodlands. You’ll get to know the local plants, insects, and birds in fascinating detail!
  • Game drives

    - Also led by a camp guide, drives will cover a lot of ground and generate a lot of opportunities to view the mammals of the Linyanti. These include four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Among the smaller predators in residence are cheetah, hyena, and wild dog, while the herbivore count features giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and a fine assortment of antelopes too.
  • Night drives

    - Head out after sunset, and you’ll have a lot of fun searching for some of the Linyanti’s nocturnal species! Leopard, civet, genet, honey badger, and spring hare are just a few examples of what you might encounter come nightfall.
  • Mokoro trips

    - A mokoro is a dug-out canoe. Embark on an excursion along the Linyanti’s waterways, and you’ll likely see crocs and hippos, as well as all manner of land mammals coming to quench their thirst on the banks of the river.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
