OVERVIEW:

Excellent for families with younger children or groups of friends seeking complete flexibility and exclusivity on safari, Gomoti Private provides exceptionally good guiding, hospitality, and cuisine… and all in a highly scenic location!

Gomoti Private is owned and run by Machaba Safaris, which currently operates eight safari camps and lodges across the Okavango Delta, the Khwai Concession, and Chobe National Park in Botswana, as well as Hwange National Park in Zimbabwe. The camp is sister property to Gomoti Plains and it’s an amazing option for a small group of family members or friends seeking really exclusive experiences of the Delta! Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all lodge activities, use of private vehicle, transfers between the camp and the nearest airstrip, and a laundry service. The camp is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via approximately 30 minutes’ road transfer from the nearest airstrip. It has a fabulous location overlooking floodplains, within the south-eastern region of the Okavango Delta.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GOMOTI PRIVATE:

Guest accommodation consists of just two tents – one Luxury Tent and one Family Luxury Tent. The luxury tent is designed for two travellers, while the family tent sleeps a maximum of two adults and two children. Both tents are raised above ground level on timber decking. They’re Meru in style, which means that an exterior layer of canvas extends over the inner structure to create a lovely private veranda at the entrance. Here, you’ll find some comfy seating and beautiful floodplains views! Inside the luxury tent, there’s a double bed, bedside cabinets and lighting, a standing fan, and a couple of easy chairs. The walls on either side of the bedroom space are clear gauze, and canvas blinds can be rolled up or down, as you prefer. The en-suite washroom is positioned at the back of the tent, and it contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins, and a shower. The family tent is equally well appointed, its two bedrooms joined by a spacious lounge area. The style of both tents is very contemporary, with a palette of mainly greys, blues, and yellows. Spherical light fittings resembling big baubles dangle overhead, adding a festive feel.

The shared lounge and dining areas at Gomoti Private occupy a third tent that’s approached from the guest accommodation along wooden walkways under the trees. This structure is open fronted, so guests can marvel at the views while relaxing and dining together. The lounge area contains a range of comfortable seating around coffee tables, while the dining area features one large table and chairs for communal meals. Both areas flow out onto the tent’s veranda, where guests can enjoy sweeping vistas over the plains! The camp’s fire-pit is set up just outside the tent, beneath a large acacia tree with lanterns hanging from its boughs. A short distance from the campfire, you’ll find the sparkling plunge pool, with sunloungers and parasols set up alongside. A spa therapist is available to provide massages and facials in your own room, and you’ll also have access to the curio shop at sister camp Gomoti Plains.

ACTIVITIES AT GOMOTI PRIVATE:

Gomoti Private provides an exciting variety of things to do! Please note, there’s a minimum age requirement of 12 years for walking safaris and mokoro excursions. Additionally, the availability of mokoro rides and boating depends on the water levels during your stay.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - This activity takes place during early morning and late afternoon, with each drive lasting for about three hours. As you’ll have use of a private vehicle, driven by a private guide, you can set the pace of your safari. There’s a lot to see within the Gomoti private concession, which is made up of grasslands, woodlands, riverine forests, and a wealth of waterways, such as the Gomoti river. You can look out for lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – although rhino sightings in Botswana are never easy – as well as numerous smaller predators and herbivores.
  • Night drives

    - Vehicle safaris after sunset are possible too, and perfect for guests interested in searching for the concession’s nocturnal species. These include aardvark, aardwolf, porcupine, and the charming pangolin!
  • Walking safaris

    - Walks usually start out from camp in the morning, before the heat sets in. Also enjoyed in the presence of your private guide, they offer thrilling opportunities to take a look at the smaller lives of the concession – its plants, insects, and over 400 types of bird!
  • Mokoro excursions

    - A mokoro is a dug-out canoe. It drifts quietly along the water and enables safarists to enjoy close encounters with the wildlife of Gomoti’s waters – elephant, hippo, and waterbirds.
  • Boating

    - Boat trips focus on the Gomoti river’s main channel. You’ll have wonderful views, not only of the aquatic wildlife, but also of various big game species coming to drink on the banks.
  • Fishing

    - Catch-and-release fishing is usually possible from March to December. For more information about this activity, or anything else to do with staying at Gomoti Private, please contact a member of the YZ team.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
