"Located just south of the superb Chitabe and Sandibe game-viewing areas, Gomoti is the sister camp to the excellent Machaba in Khwai. Game viewing is on the rise here, and with Wilderness Safaris also investing in the area, the future looks bright for the region."

OVERVIEW:

Gomoti Plains Camp is listed in the portfolio of Machaba Safaris. At present, this company runs four high-quality camps – three in the Okavango Delta and one in Zimbabwe’s Hwange National Park. Gomoti opened in early 2017, and its name was inspired by the gomoti trees thriving on the banks of the Delta’s waterways! The accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, all activities, transfers between the camp and the local airstrip, and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round. Children of all ages are welcome.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via 30 minutes’ road transfer from the local airstrip. It’s situated on the edge of the Gomoti river system, in the scenic south-eastern region of the Okavango Delta.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT GOMOTI PLAINS CAMP:

There are ten guest tents, including two for family use. Spaced well apart and raised on wooden decking, all line the banks of the Gomoti river. Entering a standard-size tent, you’ll find a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, and a pleasant seating area at the foot of the bed/s, complete with a sofa, a table made out of a tree trunk, a snug rug, and an elegant floor lamp. Just behind the bed/s, there’s a shelving unit offering some storage space. Incorporating a digital safe, it also contains a few useful items such as a cold-water flask and two kikois. Farther back into the tent, there’s the en-suite washroom, which can be closed off from the bedroom with a large screen. Facilities comprise a separate toilet, twin washbasins, and a separate shower. This space has a hanging unit too, in addition to bathrobes and slippers, a laundry basket, and free toiletries. Finally, at the front of the tent, there’s a private veranda, where you can relax and enjoy breathtaking river views! The family tents combine to create a double unit, with private lounge and shared washroom. And access for disabled travellers is available.

The communal facilities at Gomoti Plains Camp are housed in a spacious mess-style tent, set up fairly close to the water’s edge. On one side of the tent, there’s the lounge and library area, featuring a medley of well-cushioned seating, various tables and drinks stands, some interesting artefacts, and a good selection of reading material. Cross to the other side, and you’ll enter the dining area. Here, chic wooden tables-and-chairs are positioned in readiness for the camp’s tasty meals! There’s a curio shop too. If you’re in need of a little pampering, you can request a massage or facial in the privacy of your own room. The veranda of the main tent is also great for relaxation, with its comfy chairs and river vistas. You can take a seat even closer to the river and look out for the local wildlife! The camp’s swimming pool, with inviting sunloungers and parasols, is situated just a short distance from here.

ACTIVITIES AT GOMOTI PLAINS CAMP:

Gomoti Plains Camp offers an exciting variety of activities! Some are season dependent, indicated with an asterisk in the list below. Please note, any party including a child or children aged 5 years and younger must book a private vehicle for game drives. Additionally, there’s a minimum age requirement of 12 years for walking safaris and mokoro excursions.

  •  Expertly guided game drives

    - The private concession in which the camp is located is made up of grasslands, woodlands, riverine forests, and a wealth of waterways including the Gomoti river. This diversity of habitats results in plenty to see on game drives! Setting off during early morning or late afternoon, you can look out for all Big Five, numerous smaller predators and herbivores, and over four hundred species of bird.
  •  Night drives

    - Also enjoyed with a knowledgeable and experienced guide, this activity aims to showcase the concession’s nocturnal species, not least aardvark, aardwolf, pangolin, porcupine, and occasional leopard too!
  •  Walking safaris

    - Walks are fantastic for safarists keen to get to know the smaller lives of the concession. Your guide will introduce you to all sorts of plants, insects, and birdlife.
  •  Boating

    - Boating safaris from Gomoti Plains focus on the scenic Gomoti river. Among the sightings enjoyed during this activity are elephant, hippo, and vibrant waterbirds!
  •  Mokoro excursions

    - A mokoro is a dug-out canoe. Unlike a motorised boat, it floats silently through the water, offering opportunities for all aboard to focus on the sounds as well as the sights of wildlife.
  •  Catch-and-release fishing

    - This activity is usually possible during the period from March to December. It’s a very relaxing way in which to while away an afternoon!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
