When To Visit Okavango Delta:
"Sister camp to Chitabe itself, Chitabe Lediba is in exactly the same location, with the main selling point being the excellent year-round game viewing on offer. This is one of the finest areas in the country and one of the very best camps for dry game viewing."

OVERVIEW:

Chitabe Lediba is owned and operated by Wilderness Safaris. This company runs an excellent assortment of camps and lodges across Safari Africa, not least Chitabe, sibling camp. With just five guest tents, Chitabe Lediba is one of the smallest camps in the Okavango Delta. It’s also very popular, and must be booked well in advance! In common with Chitabe, it’s primarily a dry-season camp, so we recommend splitting your stay between one of the Chitabe camps and a wet-season property such as Kwetsani, Jacana, Tubu Tree, Little Vumbura, Kwara, or Little Kwara. Rates include accommodation, all meals, all local drinks, twice-daily scheduled camp activities, park fees, and a laundry service. The camp is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The camp is accessed via 20 minutes’ flight from Maun to the local airstrip, followed by 30 minutes’ game drive transfer. It has a fabulous location on an island within the Chitabe Concession, close to a small lediba (a waterhole that was once a lagoon).

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CHITABE LEDIBA:

There are five guest tents. Two are linked by a hallway, providing accommodation for family use. All tents are raised on wooden decks and approached along elevated walkways through shady woods. Each is Meru in style – the inner structure is covered by an exterior layer of canvas that extends well over the sides of the tent, creating a shady veranda at the front. Here, you’ll find a couple of chairs and a small table under a parasol, offering a lovely spot for relaxing and enjoying your views! Every tent’s entrance consists of sliding doors into the bedroom space, which features a double bed or twin beds, bedside tables and lighting, a writing desk and chair, and a pleasant seating area. En-suite facilities are set out behind the tall headboard, and they comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and walk-in shower. There’s an outdoor shower too, and towels and toiletries are supplied free of charge. The tents also include some fabulous wildlife photos and sculptures, and among the in-room amenities are mosquito nets, fans, a few magazines, an electronic safe, and bottled water.

Chitabe Lediba’s communal areas are approached from the guest tents along the wooden walkways, and they too are raised above ground. The lounge, dining area, and bar are housed in a classic timber-and-thatch lodge building, incorporating a veranda to make the most of the views! In the lounge, plush sofas and armchairs are positioned around a central coffee table, strewn with reading material. This space also contains the camp’s self-service bar. The dining area features one long table, where everyone eats together – buffet breakfasts, brunches, lunches, afternoon teas, and delicious three-course dinners. The camp offers al fresco dining too, around the fire-pit and within the boma, the latter accessed via a few steps leading down from the main deck. Finally, there’s a very inviting swimming pool, flanked by a sala, sunloungers, and a couple of jaunty sculpted crocodiles!

ACTIVITIES AT CHITABE LEDIBA:

Chitabe Lediba offers some exciting activities. Please note, the availability of guided walks depends on the level of the concession’s floodwaters and/or whether a suitable guide is in camp during your stay.

  • Expertly guided game drives

    - These take place every morning and afternoon. The Chitabe Concession is one of the Okavango Delta’s drier areas, with sprawling plains in addition to abundant acacia and mopane woodlands. Wildlife in residence includes four of the Big Five – lion, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Safarists can also look out for cheetah, hyena, wild dog, wildebeest, zebra, and an amazing assortment of antelopes such as red lechwe. The area is particularly famous for wild dog, a predator that’s so rare elsewhere.
  • Night drives

    - Nocturnal adventures are also enjoyed in the presence of a knowledgeable guide. You’ll set off after sundowners, with the guide’s spotlight illuminating species including civet, genet, porcupine, and the charming pangolin!
  • Guided walks

    - Highly recommended for anyone interested in close observation of the smaller things within the concession, walks are an excellent opportunity to get to know the resident insects, plants, and birdlife. Among the feathery friends you might encounter are hawk eagle, scarlet-chested sunbird, and red-billed francolin.
  • Helicopter trips

    - This activity incurs an additional charge, but that’s well worth it for the breathtaking views! The Delta is a place of astonishing beauty and diversity, and soaring over its waters, savanna, woods, and forests is a truly memorable experience.
