Camp Xakanaxa (pronounced Ka-ka-na-ka) is located in Moremi Game Reserve, on the Khwai River banks of the Xakanaxa lagoon.

OVERVIEW:
One of the best areas in Camp Xakanaxa is the campfire. Located under huge trees over the Khwai River and surrounded by comfortable chairs, it is the perfect place for pre-dinner drinks.Xakanaxa is part of the Desert & Delta collection of camps, with its closest sister camp being Camp Moremi. Desert & Delta also have camps in the Okavango, Savute, Chobe and the Makgadikgadi Pans areas – and they are very proud to be 100% Botswana owned.

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Xakanaxa Camp is situated around the fringe of the lagoon, in the heart of Moremi.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The main area is set under thatch, with large comfy leather couches on the inside and more seating facing the river. There is a small curio shop and a well-stocked bar area where you can help yourself. There is also a small plunge pool in the main area, with another great view. Towards the back of the lodge is a larger swimming pool with sun lounges – this does not provide such superb scenery, but it is great if you want to cool down in the middle of the day.

The accommodation consists of 12 canvas tents, which are raised off the ground to give guests stunning views. Each tent has its own private deck with two comfortable chairs for relaxing and taking in the scenery.

ACTIVITIES:
The lodge offers year-round land and water activities in power boats and 4×4 safari vehicles. The biggest downside to staying in the National Park is that you are not able to do any night drives or walking. Also, the rules of the park prohibit any off-‘road’ driving, so the guides have to stick to the paths that are already open.

We usually suggest mixing it up and combining a stay in one of the National Parks with a safari in one of the private concessions – this guarantees a good range of activities.

"I’ve always loved Xakanaxa’s location; it is my favourite of these northern Moremi lodges. Some people can pick holes in the lac of activities on offer but game viewing is seriously good here and the camp has a tangible character. An excellent choice in my opinion."
