Having been moulded from childhood by the world of travel and tourism in Kenya, Savanna joins Yellow Zebra as a Client Experience Specialist.
A snapshot
Tourism was a core component of Savanna’s childhood. Her parents started their own diving sailing safari business when they first moved to the Kenyan coast, and later they moved to the wilds of Samburu to run a safari lodge, curating a lifelong passion for the safari industry and community-centred conservation.
African countries visited
Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Morocco
Recent travel experience
Savanna’s most recent adventure was heading back to Kenya to visit her parents in Watamu. Here, she visited the Watamu snake farm, walked the stunning beaches, and enjoyed a brief but indulgent weekend away in Lamu, staying at Peponi and learning about the island’s fascinating history.
Most memorable experience
“Having spent several years living in the bush, I have definitely had some incredible safari experiences. However, one of the most memorable I would have to say was when we went on a family trip to India, when I was about 12 or 13. We were in Khana National Park. The day before, we’d probably had one of the most chaotic game drives we’d ever been on, so the next day we spoke with our guide and said we would like to focus on smaller game, bird watching, and go away from where all the other vehicles tend to congregate. We ended up spending 2 hours on our own, with two tiger cubs and their mum wandering along the side of the road. It was absolutely magical!”
Savanna's biography
Savanna was born in England, but she grew up across various parts of Kenya, starting on the coast, before experiencing a stint in the bush, and ending up in a town on the foothills of Mount Kenya. As she was indoctrinated into the world of travel and tourism from a young age, first with her parents’ diving sailing safari business and then when the family moved so that they could manage a safari lodge in Samburu, travel and conservation have always been at the forefront of her being.
After living in Brisbane, Australia for four years completing a degree in Media and Communications with Human Services, Savanna decided to move to London to enjoy a new adventure and gain further experience in the communications field. She started off in PR, working in lifestyle, beauty, and luxury travel, before switching directions and working for a safari tour operator.
In addition to travelling, Savanna loves photography, reading, and absolutely everything to do with food, from cooking new recipes to trying new restaurants.
