chloe, meet the team, safari specialist

Chloe has a decade of experience in the safari business, having worked for several of the UK’s leading African safari specialists. She is experienced in putting together itineraries across Southern and East Africa.

A snapshot

At university, Chloe studied International Relations, specialising in African development and human–wildlife conflict. She went on to a conservation placement in Tanzania, before satisfying both her love of conservation and love of travel by pursuing a career in the safari industry.

Expert destinations

Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, Uganda.

Recent travel experience

Most recently, Chloe has spent time in South Africa’s western cape region. She explored some of the lesser-visited regions north of Cape Town along the coast and into the Cederberg Mountains, continuing on to some of the off-the-beaten-track wine regions of the Breede Valley. She has also been in Botswana, riding with David Foot in the Okavango Delta and across the Makgadikgadi Pans.

Chloe's most memorable experience

There are so many! While I have been lucky enough to have had many spectacular and exciting wildlife sightings, some of the experiences that have really stuck with me have been about the location and people. For example, there’s the time I spent at a camp in the Kalahari, where, after a long busy day and fun dinner table conversation, I headed back to my tent in the midst of a lightning storm – it was spectacular! I was exhausted, but I couldn’t help sitting for hours on the deck, late into the night, looking over the vast Kalahari with my 180-degree views and counting up to 11 different lightning storms happening across the expanse of the horizon. There are also the many wonderful guides I have been lucky to meet, whose knowledge and enthusiasm for the natural world has been nothing but infectious, making impala sightings during rutting season fascinating and inspiring a fresh interest in birds!

Chloe's biography

Chloe grew up in rural Australia with a love for big open spaces and a lust for adventure. Whether she spent time travelling, grafting to fund future travel, or forging a successful overseas career, her adult years have been defined by her insatiable desire to see the world.

No travel experience captured her imagination more than her first trip to Africa, which took her to Kenya’s Maasai Mara. On her return, she went straight back to university to study International Relations, specialising in African development and human–wildlife conflict, and the wheels were set in motion for what was to follow. She moved to Tanzania, initially bound for Nyerere National Park (then the Selous Game Reserve), to participate in a conservation project dealing with human–wildlife conflict. When funding was pulled for the project, Chloe headed to Mafia Island (south of Zanzibar) and was involved in research within the marine nature reserve, looking into fish species populations within the protected zone.

Prior to joining Yellow Zebra, Chloe worked for two well-respected tour operators in London, travelling extensively through Africa on educational journeys to broaden her knowledge and deepen her understanding of the continent. Nearly every holiday was also spent on the continent, and she relished the opportunity to cast the guide book aside, discovering the hidden gems and seldom-seen wildernesses in the company of specialist guides.

Chloe brings not only a wealth of experience, encyclopaedic knowledge, and a natural gift for planning and organisation, but also a real passion for Africa and all it offers the modern explorer. She is passionate about providing her clients with a meaningful insight into the real Africa and isn’t afraid to ask them to slow down so they can fully experience its cultures, wildlife, pioneering conservation efforts, and the teachings of the natural world.
