Uganda in August

August

August is the end of dry season, and a fantastic month for gorilla treks, chimp treks, general wildlife viewing, and marvelling at hundreds of bird species in Uganda’s north.

What’s the weather going to be like in Uganda in August?

  • Days are warm and sunny, with clear blue skies
  • It’s the end of the dry season – Uganda has a tropical climate, however, so there is still a chance of rain
  • Temperatures are warm
  • YZ recommends packing for all weather conditions!

What are the highlights of visiting Uganda in August?

  • All parks are accessible and at their best for wildlife viewing
  • August is a peak season month, but it’s very unusual for parks in Uganda to feel busy and overcrowded
  • It’s one of the prime months for game viewing, as wildlife tends to be out of the bush in search of water
  • Animals are easier to spot, as there is less vegetation and fewer leaves on the trees
  • August offers some of the best conditions for gorilla tracking and chimpanzee treks
  • Hundreds of different bird species are still present in the north of the country
  • The Bayimba International Festival of the Arts takes place on the shores of Lake Victoria, showcasing Uganda’s finest arts, music, and entertainment
  • Keen photographers can take amazing pictures of wildlife around scarce water sources.

Any lowlights?

  • We advise booking accommodation well in advance during the dry season, as properties have limited availability
  • Property prices are high in August
  • There are fewer mosquitoes except in areas like Bwindi and Kibale.
