“Part of the very smart small group of Latitude Hotels, this new property in Kampala is likely to be just as good as the others – boutique-y, beautifully designed, and with great food. This is an exciting addition to Kampala.”

OVERVIEW:

This is the latest addition to the impressive portfolio of Latitude Hotels, offering high-quality accommodation in Kampala. It’s an excellent option for stopovers in the city, as well as longer stays.

At Yellow Zebra, we’ve always loved the Latitude hotel brand, for its all-round superb service and smart style. So we’re thrilled that the company has opened a new property in Kampala, joining the collection that already includes hotels in Lusaka and Lilongwe. The accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, and the hotel is open throughout the year.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel is accessed via 45 minutes’ road transfer from Entebbe International Airport. Positioned on the Equator (0º), it’s situated in a peaceful suburb of Kampala called Makindye.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT LATITUDE 0º:

Guest accommodation consists of 47 rooms, all exquisitely furnished. Latitude Hotels has worked with Katundu, an ethical art organisation, to create a vibrant and authentic style. There are entry-level double rooms and more spacious suites. For solo travellers or couples here on a stopover stay, the entry-level rooms should have everything you need – comfortable bed/s, bedside stands and lighting, a writing desk and chair, a wardrobe and other storage units, and well-appointed en-suite facilities. The suites have two bedrooms, making it perfect for family use. All options have spectacular views, either over Lake Victoria or over the bustling city of Kampala.

The communal facilities at Latitude 0º include a stylish lounge, featuring a medley of seating around coffee tables, some interesting artwork, and plenty of elegant lighting. There’s also a sophisticated restaurant and bar, and all interiors have been created in partnership with Katundu. The hotel has a rooftop bar too, in addition to a spa offering a wide variety of relaxing and revitalising treatments. The fitness centre comes complete with an 18 metres swimming pool! And an entire floor is dedicated to a business environment, with private workplaces and meeting rooms.

ACTIVITIES AT LATITUDE 0º:

Most of our clients stay at Latitude 0º for one night, on their way to or from a safari in the national parks of Bwindi, Queen Elizabeth, Kibale, and Lake Mburo. However, if you’re here for longer, here are a few things to do in and around Kampala:

  • Uganda Museum

     – Founded in 1908, this is the oldest museum in East Africa. Its collections include ethnological, natural-historical, and traditional exhibits, among their ranks everything from hunting equipment to musical instruments. At the back of the building, you’ll find the Cultural Village, offering fascinating insights into the Ugandan people’s ways of life. There’s a children’s resource centre too.
  • Cathedrals, temples, and mosques

     – Many of the hills around Kampala are topped by religious buildings, not least Namirembe Cathedral, Ba’hai Temple, and Gadaffi Mosque. As well as admiring the impressive structures themselves, you can marvel at beautiful views over the city.
  • Uganda National Cultural Centre

    – Located in the city centre, UNCC is made up of the country’s national theatre and the Nommo Gallery. The theatre is also put to use as a cinema, while the gallery features works by Ugandan and foreign artists. There’s also a nice snack bar and the Craft Village, where you can purchase locally made arts-and-crafts items.
  • Markets and more markets

    – Why not head to Buganda Road to take a look around the most sprawling market in Kampala? You could check out the markets of Nakasero and Saint Balikuddembe too.
  • Shopping malls

    – The city is home to several shopping centres, such as the mall at Garden City. This is also the location of the famous Casino Simba, which features a hundred gaming machines.
  • Restaurants, cafés, and bars

    – Whether you need to take a snack break between sightseeing tours, or you’re looking for somewhere for a special dinner, Kampala can provide! And the friendly staff at Latitude 0º are happy to advise you on eating out during your time here.
