“Asilia is an established operator we regularly work with in Tanzania and Kenya, so we’re extremely excited about their announcement of Erebero Hills. It introduces a higher-level luxury option for gorilla trekking accommodation in Uganda, a destination historically known for its more rustic-style lodges.”

OVERVIEW:

Scheduled to open at the beginning of 2026, Erebero Hills is a small lodge comprising eight luxury suites with staggering views of the surrounding montane forest and across the valley. It’s ideally located for gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, and the name Erebero means ‘a place where you can see far’, aptly so given its majestic hillside position and sweeping panorama. Considering Asilia’s consistently excellent standards, we have high hopes for Erebero Hills and are confident it will set new standards for this part of Uganda, particularly as a gorilla-trekking destination. The lodge will be open year-round, and rates include all meals, all drinks apart from premium spirits and champagne, and lunch packs for gorilla trekking.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Erebero Hills is located on the northern edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in south-western Uganda. Kihihi is the closest airstrip to the lodge (scheduled flights from Entebbe take 1 hour 45 minutes) – from there, it’s approximately 1.5 hours by car.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT EREBERO HILLS:

Each of the eight glass-fronted double or twin-bedded suites at Erebero Hills will comprise a large, open-plan space with a boot room at the entrance and an integrated bedroom and lounge. Expansive viewing decks are guaranteed to optimise the sensational forest views, with outside seating where guests can relax and admire the epic surroundings. Spacious en-suite bathrooms will have double basins, indoor/outdoor showers, separate toilet cubicles, and free-standing bathtubs with uninterrupted forest views. With plenty of thoughtful touches and high-quality finishes, we are confident Erebero Hills will offer some of the most upscale accommodations in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.

The architecturally unique main area at Erebero Hills will be elevated on wooden stilts, again fully maximising the captivating panoramic views. Plans are underway for a pool deck that promises a spectacular outlook from its sunloungers and an outside pool bar/dining space with plenty of shade beneath the wooden gazebo. There will also be a library/information centre, a sunken fireplace lounge, indoor and outdoor dining areas, and in-suite spa treatments on request. The lodge is scheduled to open at the start of 2026, and we’ll update you with further details as these become available.

ACTIVITIES AT EREBERO HILLS:

  • Gorilla trekking

    – Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is home to almost half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population and one of the most biodiverse regions on Earth. For many, seeing a mountain gorilla in the wild is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Accompanied by a team of skilled park rangers and porters, you’ll set off at dawn in a group of eight to navigate the steep forested slopes in search of one of Bwindi’s gorilla families. Spending an hour with these fascinating creatures is nothing short of a dream come true, and the time seems to pass by in a flash!
  • Batwa community visit

    – The Batwa are the original forest dwellers of this region, with ancient customs and hunting-and-gathering techniques that have survived for thousands of years. Community visits are an important way of recognising Batwa heritage, and we look forward to revealing more about Asilia’s conservation efforts and culturally minded tours, which will likely include beadwork, weaving, candle, and soap making.
  • Nature walks (birding, butterflies, waterfalls

    – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO World Heritage site renowned for its exceptional biodiversity and myriad species of trees, ferns, birds, and butterflies. Accompanied by experienced guides, nature walks provide a lens into this extraordinary natural habitat. Asilia will also offer reforestation walks, garden tours, and tea tastings.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
