OVERVIEW:
Konokono Zanzibar Beach Resort is privately owned and run. It provides the ultimate in barefoot luxury, boasting one of the island’s most beautiful beaches. The activity list is short, due in large part to the resort’s remote location. However, Konokono does hold a TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence! Usually the accommodation is booked on a half-board basis, including breakfast, lunch/dinner, bottled water, parking, and Wi-Fi. Children aged 3 years and under stay for free, but please note that there isn’t a kids club – for alternative options, do get in touch with a member of our team.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
The resort is accessed via 1 hour 30 minutes’ road transfer from Zanzibar’s international airport. It’s situated on the westernmost tip of the Michamvi peninsula, within tropical forest fringing the gorgeous Chwaka Bay.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT KONO KONO ZANZIBAR:
There are 24 villas and two beach pavilions. The villas come in four categories – sea view, two-bedroom sea view, garden view, and family. All benefit from air conditioning, ceiling fans, LCD television, mini-bar, electronic safe, and Wi-Fi. The interiors, refurbished in 2013, feel fresh and are generously proportioned. Sea view, garden view, and family villas offer 135 square metres of floor space, while the two-bedroom villa boasts 160. The family villa can accommodate up to two adults and two children, while the one-bedroom villas have capacity for an extra double bed or twin beds. All villas have a pleasant living room, well-appointed en-suite facilities, and a private garden complete with plunge pool! The beach pavilion option, located on Chwaka’s pure white sands, sleeps a maximum of two guests in a king-size bed, and offers all the amenities of the villas. It’s ideal for anyone who enjoys being really close to the ocean, with uninterrupted vistas over the sparkling water.
Konokono’s communal lodge is positioned on top of cliffs overlooking the bay. It links to the villas along an attractive pathway lined with fragrant bougainvillea, while guests of the pavilions ascend a flight of steps to reach the building. The resort’s reception occupies a small building at the rear of the property. Inside the much larger lodge, you’ll find a spacious lounge with plenty of comfortable seating around coffee tables. The restaurant serves buffet breakfasts, lunches, and dinners, with snacks available from Konokono’s beach bar. Guests can also tuck in to delicious meals on the lodge’s deck, all the while marvelling at views of the ocean! There’s a spa too, where you can enjoy a little pampering. And the property also has a stunning infinity pool, with sunloungers alongside and easy access onto the beach below.
**Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in!**
ACTIVITIES AT KONO KONO ZANZIBAR:
As mentioned, the activity list at Konokono isn’t particularly long, but if you’re content with spending most of your time on the beach you won’t mind the lack of excursions on offer here.
- Reef walking is available at low tide, and this is a good opportunity to explore – make sure you wear sturdy footwear!
- Sailing is offered too, both in a traditional dhow and in a ngalawa outrigger canoe.
- Just a short stroll from the resort, there’s a small village, so you can certainly make a visit and enjoy some cultural interaction.
- But the main attraction here really is the glorious Chwaka Bay – it’s considered one of the best beaches on Zanzibar!
