"This is a seriously good private island experience! Clients can expect a more than comfortable lodge which still has an adventurous flare.”

OVERVIEW:

Fanjove Island is one of Tanzania's most exclusive beach destinations. Surrounded by beautiful, powder-white, sand beaches and the crystal clear water of the Indian Ocean, this island has an enormous lagoon and 11 km of coral reef. It is also amazingly good value, so we highly recommend it to anyone looking for an unspoiled island experience in very beautiful surroundings.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Its' location is absolutely stunning. Fanjove Island is one of the six small islands in the Songo Songo Archipelago, just off the coast of Tanzania. Access is by air to the neighbouring island, Songo Songo, and a 30 minute boat transfer.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT FANJOVE ISLAND:

Fanjove Lodge sits on its own private island. The design of the lodge is elegant but simple and everything is eco-friendly, using only locally sourced materials. Guests sleep in six large bandas situated around a headland. They are all solar powered and have ensuite bathrooms with flush toilets and a hot open air shower.

ACTIVITIES AT FANJOVE ISLAND:

Sometimes the best thing to do here is to simply relax; however, Fanjove Island offers a great range of things to do:

  • Diving and snorkeling excursions

    - The waters around the island are approximately 28°C and visibility of up to 30meters. On an excursion, you can see a wealth of sea life, including butterfly fish, angelfish, grey and black-tip reef shark, whales, and turtles. There is an intact coral reef that stretches for 11km around Fanjove, enabling views of the stunning marine landscape. Snorkeling can be from the shore or by boat, and diving is from a boat with an expert guide.
  • Kayaking

    - Fanjove has four single kayaks, which offers guests an opportunity to explore the whole of the main island, the bird island, and the cliff system from the water.
  • Dhow sailing

    - Enjoy the sunset on the water, with a boat trip on a traditional East Africa coast sailing vessel. The boat leaves before sunset, skippered by locals and the island's waiters. Here, you'll experience an incredible sundowner!
  • Bird watching

    - Between November and March, the island is the destination for many migratory birds. With discreet lookout spots, you can appreciate the rich diversity of the island, with binoculars in hand.
