"Set in one of the most remote parts of the Kruger, The Outpost is exactly what the name suggests…! The place to stay to escape the crowds farther south… superb."

OVERVIEW:

The Outpost is great for anyone who is not intent on seeing the Big Five every single day and who is looking for South Africa’s wildest experience.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

This spectacular piece of land is owned by the local Makuleke people, who profit directly from the lodge’s operations. The concession is located in the northernmost tip of Kruger National Park, at the confluence of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. In fact, guests of the lodge can visit both of these countries without a visa.

?ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE OUTPOST KRUGER:

The lodge itself consists of 12 luxury open-plan suites with award-winning open-plan bathrooms. The design is unashamedly contemporary. Space has been cleverly used to bring the wilderness in, with 180-degree uninterrupted views of the wilderness. State-of-the-art retractable screens can be brought down when the weather is less than perfect.

ACTIVITIES AT THE OUTPOST KRUGER:

  • Spa treatments are offered here and can be enjoyed from the privacy of your own suite.
  • Activities are centred on safari, and the day and night drives are the main activities. The walking safaris here are phenomenal, and we would go so far as to say they are the best in the country.

The Makuleke Concession is 26,000 hectares in extent and is bordered by both the Luvuvhu and LimpopoRivers, which attract large numbers of elephant and buffalo in the dry season. All other members of the Big Five are present, as well as many species of antelope and plains game. However, this is not the only reason to travel to this area. The concession protects 80 per cent of Kruger’s biodiversity and is a real birder’s paradise. The combination of fever-tree forests, open floodplains, gaping gorges and massive rivers is quite something to behold.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
