When To Visit Hermanus:

"With great views looking across the bay, The Marine has a superb location for the sheer beauty of the scenery and access to Hermanus town itself. One of Hermanus’s most popular choices for top-end hotels at a relatively decent price."

OVERVIEW:

The Marine is a lovely place to stay. However, it is large and rather traditional in style, so it may not be suitable for travellers who prefer their hotels to be more contemporary and cutting-edge.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The Marine is an excellent 5-star hotel in the fishing town of Hermanus, about two and a half hours’ drive from Cape Town. It stands on a small cliff and has fabulous views both out to sea and of Overberg Mountains.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT THE MARINE HOTEL HERMANUS:

In total, there are 42 luxurious bedrooms and suites. All are elegantly furnished, have large bathrooms, and are decorated in pastel shades and blues to reflect their location by the sea.

The food is very good and the service is efficient and friendly. The facilities include a heated saltwater swimming pool, a boutique and a spa with a steam room, and a hydrobath table for gel and mud body wrap treatments.

ACTIVITIES AT THE MARINE HOTEL HERMANUS:

  • One of the main attractions of Hermanus is whale watching. The Marine is a perfect place to watch the southern right whales that come here between July and November. They are at their best between July and August, but it is cooler during those months. If you like warmer weather, it is better to come here between December and March but you are unlikely to see any whales.
  • Other activities available in the area include walking, hiking, fishing, birdwatching and golf. There are some world-class golf courses here. For those who want something totally different, there is great white shark cage diving.
