"A brand new luxury lodge in the Timbavati Reserve. This small lodge offers an uber-luxurious and contemporary feel while maintaining the bush vibe. Between game drives, spend your time in the swimming pool, which overlooks an active watering hole."

OVERVIEW:

RockFig Safari Lodge is privately owned and run by Glen and Bruce Jenkins, who first visited the lowveld of Timbavati during the mid-1990s. Many years later, they decided to purchase some farmland in the area, which is now the site of the luxury lodge. It’s one of the newest properties in the wildlife-rich game reserve, but it has already received rave reviews! Accommodation is booked on a full-board basis, including all meals, a selection of alcoholic and soft drinks, daily safari activities in the Timbavati, transfers between the lodge and the local airstrip, Wi-Fi, and a laundry service. The lodge can be booked on an exclusive basis for a maximum of eight persons.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The lodge can be accessed via 5 minutes’ road transfer from its own airstrip. It’s situated in the central region of the Timbavati, on the sprawling lowveld.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT ROCKFIG SAFARI LODGE:

Guest accommodation consists of just six chalet-style suites. Constructed using timber, stone, and thatch, these merge seamlessly with the natural surroundings. Each bedroom features a double bed or twin beds with mosquito nets, bedside tables and lighting, an easy chair, a luggage rack, ample storage space, and some pleasant watercolour artwork. Additional amenities include air conditioning, fans, radio, mini-bar, safe, Wi-Fi, and hairdryer. The en-suite washroom is accessed via a curtain to one side of the bedroom, and it contains a flush toilet, twin washbasins with mirror over, walk-in shower, and bathtub. There’s an outside shower too! Doors from the bedroom lead out onto a private veranda – set with lounge and dining furniture, this is a lovely spot for relaxing and enjoying delicious meals while marvelling at your view. Each suite sleeps a maximum of two adults and one child.

The communal lodge at RockFig is also made out of timber, stone, and thatch. It’s positioned at roughly the centre of the site, approached from the guest chalets along neat pathways. Interiors include the comfortable lounge, in which well-cushioned sofas, chairs, and pouffes are set around a coffee table, all adjacent to a cosy stone fireplace. Appropriately, there’s a charming watercolour picture of a leopard on the wall, while most of the surfaces are adorned with intriguing artefacts and a few candles. The dining area offers a large table, where everyone eats together. This is the indoor venue for breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. It’s open plan to the lodge’s kitchen, so you can have fun interacting with kitchen staff! There’s also a well-stocked bar. These internal spaces flow out onto a deck, where you’ll find an outdoor lounge and a boma for al fresco dining. There’s a circular fire-pit too, where guests gather to share their safari stories. And a few steps lead down to yet another deck, the location for sunloungers under parasols, and a sparkling infinity pool!

**Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in!**

ACTIVITIES AT ROCKFIG SAFARI LODGE:

RockFig offers classic safari activities:

  • Expertly guided game drives

    – these take place during early morning and afternoon into evening. The Timbavati covers over 500 sq. km of savanna bushveld and mixed woodland, home to over 40 mammal species. You can look out for all Big Five – lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo! Smaller predators here include cheetah, hyenas, jackals, and wild dog, while the herbivore count features hippo, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, and antelopes. Additionally, there are 350 types of bird, ranging from Montagu’s harrier to southern carmine bee-eater. Each safari vehicle carries just four guests, so there’s plenty of room. And every family has use of a vehicle all to themselves!
  • Expertly guided walking safaris

    – available for guests aged 14 years and older, this activity is highly recommended for anyone wishing to take a closer look at the Timbavati’s plants, insects, and bird life. You’ll track big game on foot too, all the while benefiting from the knowledge and experience of your expert guide.
  • Bush dining

    – being on safari uses up a lot of energy! So by all means request a picnic as part of your vehicle or walking safari, a chance to refuel before the wildlife viewing resumes. Dinners can also be enjoyed al fresco, often around a campfire and in the romantic glow of lanterns. Members of RockFig’s staff are on hand to keep you safe at all times.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
