"Once a farmhouse and now with only four rooms, Motswari offers the perfect exclusive safari experience for couples and small groups. The rooms are decorated with a rustic décor, which reminds you that you are out in the bush. Here you can enjoy game sightings right from your viewing deck or treat yourself to a sleep out under the stars."

OVERVIEW:

Motswari Geiger’s Camp is highly recommended for travellers looking for exclusive accommodation within this wildlife-rich region of the Timbavati. There is accommodation for up to eight adults, and guests have access to the curio shop and conference room at Motswari Game Lodge. Please note, the property does not accept children – you might like to get in touch with us to discuss alternatives if you are travelling as a family.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Geiger’s Camp is usually accessed via road or air transfer from Johannesburg. Once you have entered the reserve, you are driven to the camp by a friendly member of staff.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MOTSWARI GEIGER'S CAMP:

The property comprises two houses made out of timber, stone, and thatch, connected by a veranda. One house has the communal spaces, whereas the other is where you will find the bedrooms. The communal areas include a cosy lounge/library, with comfortable seating around coffee tables and a few shelves with a good assortment of reading material. There is a fireplace too, which is very welcome during the colder months of the year. Most meals are enjoyed on the camp’s dining deck, featuring chic separate tables and amazing views out onto the reserve. Guests may also opt to eat in the boma, a fenced dining space boasting a large fire-pit as well as traditional lanterns for light in the evenings. And Geiger’s has a swimming pool too, perfect for a little relaxation.

Each of the four bedrooms here is individually styled, the work of owner Marion Geiger-Orengo and decorator David Strauss. The interiors are stunning, as all pieces of furniture have been carefully chosen to create a particular ambience. King-size beds draped in elegant netting… an old explorer’s chest… antique and art deco chairs… – these are just a few of the furnishings that transport you to a much earlier era and make any stay here truly memorable. Every en-suite bathroom is spacious and shows the same level of design detail, for example in the copper washbasins and ball-and-claw baths. Paintings by Marion Geiger-Orengo provide further intrigue, while scenes of the surrounding bushscape may be appreciated simply by going out onto your private veranda. You can also enjoy an outdoor shower.

ACTIVITIES AT MOTSWARI GEIGER'S CAMP:

Geiger’s Camp is well positioned to offer classic safari activities – game drives and bush walks.

  • The drives take place at sunrise and at sunset, each lasting for three-and-a-half hours. This is a wonderful opportunity to see a real wealth of wildlife, including lion, rhino, leopard, elephant, and buffalo – all of the Big Five! – as well as numerous other predators and herbivores.
  • The reserve’s nightlife features hyena, civet, honey badger, and adorable bush babies. Plenty of owls also come out with the stars of the darkening sky, and the birding in general is very impressive here – the reserve is home to over 350 species.
  • If you are a keen birder, you will really appreciate the camp’s bush walks, which encourage guests to check out not only the feathery friends but also the plant life and insect life of Motswari.
  • And a completely different perspective is provided by Giraffe’s Nest, the camp’s treehouse erected above Xanatsi Dam. You can choose to spend a night here rather than in your bedroom, and the experience includes a delicious dinner and drinks before you settle down for the night.
  • The accommodation features comfy beds and chairs, a well-appointed eco-bathroom, and a retractable canvas roof.
  • Giraffe Nest is ideal for safarists who love getting close to nature, as all night long you are surrounded by the sounds of the bush. Come morning, a guide awakens you and brings you back to camp.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
