Established in 1946, this company specialises in high-quality properties all over the world, achieving recognition from the likes of the World Travel Awards! The accommodation is usually booked on a B&B basis, and the hotel is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The hotel is situated about 70 metres from the International Arrivals Hall at O. R. Tambo International Airport. It’s just under 20 kilometres from the centre of Johannesburg.

Guest accommodation consists of 138 rooms and suites. All are pleasantly furnished, with a natural palette and some vibrant patterns and artworks. At entry level, there’s the Classic Room, which offers a comfy king-size bed, black-out curtains, soundproof windows, satellite television, tea-and-coffee station, Wi-Fi, and spacious en-suite washroom with shower. If you’re after something special, you could consider a Suite. Positioned high up on the hotel’s seventh floor, this option benefits from all the features of the Classic Room as well as a separate seating area and a free mini-bar. The Executive Room boasts additional mod cons and floor space, but this category is designed for the business traveller rather than the safarist. The Classic Room has pretty much everything you need for a comfortable stay! Access for disabled travellers is in place, and service animals are allowed.

The communal facilities at InterContinental O. R. Tambo Airport are pretty impressive too. Guests can relax in numerous sumptuous lounges and enjoy delicious food and drink in the hotel’s restaurant and bar. The restaurant Quills, is open 24/7 and it serves breakfasts, contemporary lunches, and à la carte dinners. Among the chefs’ specialties is game meat, complemented with some very fine local wines. The hotel has a well-equipped gym too, on the top floor of the building. Anyone in need of a little pampering can pop to the spa for a range of massages and other revitalising treatments. And you can also relax in the heated indoor pool!

Constitution Hill
– One of the most significant historical sites in South Africa, this hill was the location of a fort until its use as a prison from 1892 to 1983. Today there are four exhibitions, comprising not only Old Fort but also the buildings that sprang up around it over the years. There’s also an interactive play facility for children and a pleasant café.
Apartheid Museum
– This museum is situated just 8 kilometres south of Johannesburg. It’s considered the best of its kind for an accurate presentation of twentieth-century Africa.
Soweto Township
– Often coupled with a visit to the Apartheid Museum, a tour of the township provides fascinating insights into the history of Johannesburg.
Johannesburg Art Gallery
– The city’s art gallery is found in the Central Business District, and it’s the biggest gallery on the subcontinent! Highlights include Dutch paintings of the seventeenth century, eighteenth-century British works, South African art of the nineteenth century, and an extensive contemporary collection.

– Johannesburg has its fair share of shopping malls, but this is a bit different – a complex of boutiques, eateries, and galleries, all in shipping crates! You’ll have a lot of fun making your way around this attraction, found in the bohemian suburb of Melville.
Johannesburg Botanical Garden
– Fabulous for keen botanists and anyone interested in landscape design, the garden occupies approximately 125 hectares within Emmarentia, another suburb. It has several distinct areas, not least the Shakespeare Garden containing all the herbs mentioned by the Bard in his various oeuvres! There’s a great restaurant too.
