“You can expect slick service and great levels of comfort, food, and luxury from this boutique guesthouse perched on the slopes of Table Mountain. However, its quirky interior design and lack of iconic sea or mountain views that Cape Town is famed for means it’s not for everybody.”

OVERVIEW:

The newest boutique hotel in Cape Town, Camissa House has a wonderful location on the slopes of Table Mountain! It’s an excellent option for travellers seeking a sophisticated base from which to explore the Mother City and surrounds.

Camissa House is described as a celebration of Africa’s Cape. Sister hotel to the stylish MannaBay, it’s equally elegant and cannot fail to impress with its sleek rooftop bar! However, the property isn’t as close to Cape Town’s restaurants as other options in the area, so do contact us to talk about this. Accommodation is booked on a B&B basis, including all house beverages, afternoon high tea, a concierge service, a 24-hour butler service, and high-speed Wi-Fi. The house is open all year round.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The house can be accessed via 20 minutes’ road transfer from Cape Town International Airport. It’s situated on the slopes of Table Mountain within the serene suburb of Oranjezicht, just 5 minutes from the city centre.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT CAMISSA HOUSE:

Guest accommodation consists of just eight rooms, all exquisitely presented. Each features an inviting double bed, bedside stands and lighting, end-of-bed seating, a writing table, and ample storage space. The décor is in large part inspired by the hotel’s natural surroundings, for example the flowers that form part of the Cape Floral Kingdom and adorn the majestic mountainside. In-room amenities include air conditioning, a television, international adaptors, a safe, and complimentary Wi-Fi. In the en-suite washroom, you’ll find a flush toilet, single or twin washbasins, and shower, as well as heated towel rails, a hairdryer, and complimentary dressing gowns. Some rooms have a freestanding bathtub too, so please let us know if you’d prefer a full bathroom. Finally, a butler is on hand to ensure you have everything you need for a comfortable stay.

The communal spaces at Camissa House are as impressive as the guest rooms. The main lounge area features plush sofas and armchairs around coffee or occasional tables, colourful floral cushions, a selection of reading material, and a cosy fireplace. The high-ceilinged restaurant has a pleasantly outdoorsy ambience, emphasised by the presence of plenty of plants and flowers. This is where guests tuck in to delicious breakfasts and indulgent high teas, while marvelling at vistas over Cape Town. A good selection of drinks is offered at the property’s rooftop bar, which also boasts spectacular city views! And just in front of the house, there’s a swimming pool – flanked by welcoming sunloungers under parasols, this is the perfect place for relaxing in between excursions into the city.

ACTIVITIES AT CAMISSA HOUSE:

Camissa House is well located for trips into Cape Town. Here are just a few attractions and experiences to enjoy during your stay:

  • Table Mountain Aerial Gateway

    - As the house is situated on the mountain’s slopes, why not start the fun here? Take a ride up the majestic mountain by cable car, and you’ll have a great time simply admiring the scenery!
  • Robben Island

    - Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 27 years, and 18 of those years were spent within the prison on this island. Lying approximately 7 kilometres off the coast, it’s accessed from Cape Town’s V&A Waterfront.
  • V&A Waterfront

    - Shops, eateries, markets, bars… no stay in the Mother City is complete without at least one excursion to the bustling V&A!
  • Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden

    - The garden is an ideal destination for a picnic lunch. Positively overflowing with indigenous flora, Kirstenbosch is truly fascinating for anyone with an interest in plant life.
  • District Six Museum

    - This is a highly absorbing exhibition of images, artefacts, and recordings, many of them supplied by ex-residents of the district
  • Castle of Good Hope

    - This pentagon-shaped structure is the oldest building in South Africa. It’s home to the Castle Military Museum, a must-visit for history fans.
  • Houses of Parliament

    - Also recommended for history buffs, the houses offer guided tours, hearing attendances, and opportunities to watch debates from its gallery.
  • Camps Bay Beach

    - We think Camps is the most glamorous sandy spot in Cape Town! Head there for beach activities, fine dining, or just soaking up some sun.
  • Clifton Beach

    - This sheltered series of four coves, located not far from Camps Bay, is another top pick at YZ. Its 4th Beach is next to La Med, our go-to sundowners spot.
  • Cape Point

    - Why not take an excursion to Africa’s south-western tip, which is famous for its beaches? While you’re here, you could also visit Boulders Beach to see lots of penguins, and Simonstown or Fishhoek for a little culture too.
