Namibia in July

Namibia’s second dry-season month, July is wonderful for wildlife viewing – lots of species cluster around very few water sources, and lack of plant life makes for amazing visibility on vehicle and walking safaris.

  • Day time average temperature = 20°C
  • Night time average temperature = 6°C
  • Average rainfall = 1mm
  • Average daylight = 11 hours

What’s the weather going to be like in Namibia in July

  • Days are clear and warm, while nights and early mornings can be very cold
  • July is the second month of Namibia’s dry season
  • Daytime temperatures are comfortable, but come night it can freeze in desert regions
  • We recommend lots of snug layers, especially for night time and early morning game drives

What are the highlights of visiting Namibia in July

  • Cloudless skies and generally good visibility make for fantastic wildlife viewing
  • There are hardly any mosquitoes
  • Etosha National Park is particularly good in July, as a vast variety of wildlife clusters around the park’s waterholes – elephant, rhino, giraffe, wildebeest, zebra, ostrich, and more
  • Throughout all safari areas, scarcity of water leads to immense concentrations of wildlife at permanent water sources
  • There’s very little greenery left in parks and reserves, so it’s easy to see all the wildlife
  • Stargazing is amazing during the dry season – Namibia’s south even boasts a dark sky reserve, one of just two worldwide
  • The dramatic dunes of the Skeleton Coast and Sossusvlei provide superb photography opportunities

Any lowlights?

  • Properties fill up quickly this month, so it’s a good idea to book well in advance
  • Prices are high
  • Desert nights can be very cold
