When To Visit Central Namibia:

The central region of Namibia is a fantastic base from which travellers can explore some of the finest cultural and natural experiences this country has to offer.

From chic safari, to hot air ballooning over the desert, to visiting local villages, to seeing the ancient rock engravings first hand at Twyfelfontein… this really is a remarkable region!

Namibia’s capital city, Windhoek, was built in the very centre of the country, so it is the most integral part of this region; however, in the surrounding areas, visitors will find a vast array of sights and sounds to experience as part of a holiday of a lifetime!

Accommodation

Central Namibia is not particularly wild compared with other areas in Namibia – it is unlikely that you will need an off-road vehicle in order to visit some of the tourist hotspots or to drive to your accommodation, as the majority of the region’s boutique hotels, luxury lodges and bush camps are accessed via well-maintained roads and highways. However, the area does boast some superb viewing spots for wildlife, especially birdlife. So if you are a keen birder, do not forget your binos.

Regions to visit

In the immediate area surrounding the capital city, there are a number of private and public wildlife reserves. You can book to stay here and take guided tours into the bush, to see all the animals in action up close and personal! Gamsberg Mountain offers a dramatic focal point to the inland plateau in Central Namibia, as part of the Khomas Hochland. Hot springs can be discovered here too, providing a relaxing dip in steaming water! The area also plays host to the beginnings of two deserts – the Namib to the west of Windhoek, and the Kalahari to the east. So whichever direction you choose to take from the centre, you are guaranteed to find something spectacular!
