"This upscale bed-and-breakfast is situated in a prime central location, just a stone's throw from the local shops and beach. The rooms are lavish, and guests can also rent a few pedal bikes, providing a fun way to explore the town."

OVERVIEW:

Swakopmund Guesthouse is owned and operated by the Borg family. Initially their holiday home, in December 2008 it opened as a B&B. The property has been awarded a Certificate of Excellence by TripAdvisor, and regularly receives glowing reviews! The price of your stay includes accommodation, breakfast, parking, and Wi-Fi. When sharing with two full-paying adults, children aged 7–12 years incur a reduced rate and youngsters aged 6 years and younger stay for free!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The guesthouse address is Hendrik Witbooi 35. This location is close to both the beach and Swakopmund’s main cluster of shops. You can transfer by road from the town’s airport, a journey of just over 6 kilometres south-west along Sam Nujome Avenue. The property is a modern sand-coloured building, flanked by white-painted cuboid pillars and with large solar panels on its tiled roof.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT SWAKOPMUND GUESTHOUSE:

Guest accommodation consists of seven standard rooms, seven luxury rooms, and one family suite. The luxury rooms are larger than the standard rooms, but all benefit from the same amenities. The beds, either double or twins, are very comfortable. There’s a handy bedside table per guest, with a neat light fitting on the wall above, as well as a separate seating area and plenty of storage space. Amenities include a standing fan, a satellite television, a mini-bar, a tea-and-coffee station, a safe, and free Wi-Fi. A breezy blue-and-white palette brings to mind Swakopmund’s beaches, and the sea features in wall artwork. En-suite facilities comprise flush toilet, twin washbasins, and walk-in shower. A hairdryer is provided, and there’s a heater in the bedroom and in the shower room. One room is suitable for wheelchair users. The family suite has an additional bedroom for children, and most of the accommodation has views of the guesthouse’s exceptionally well maintained courtyard garden complete with pod chairs!

The communal spaces at Swakopmund Guesthouse are equally pleasant. Guests are welcomed at what seems to be a wall of sea pebbles, housed within a glass reception desk! Adjoining this area is the property’s lounge, featuring well-cushioned wicker sofas and armchairs around coffee tables – tea, coffees, and snacks are available here throughout the day. The dining room is also very comfortable, with chic separate tables and exposed ceiling beams. The palette is a slightly greener blue and white, and the wall artwork is not as much inspired by the sea as it is in the guest rooms. Nevertheless, the overhead lighting features seashells and table décor includes fish ornaments in keeping with the general theme. A delicious buffet breakfast is served in the dining room every morning, with guests choosing among an array of hot and cold options. Highchairs are available for the little ones to use.

ACTIVITIES AT SWAKOPMUND GUESTHOUSE:

  • The guesthouse is well positioned for guests to enjoy a great range of activities.
  • You could start with a stroll to the beach, for leisurely walks and swimming. Many of Swakopmund’s shops are also situated a short distance away, along with an assortment of cafés, restaurants, and bars.
  • Friendly staff members are happy to arrange all sorts of land- and water-based activities, such as sand boarding, quad biking, horse riding, camel riding, fishing, sea kayaking, parasailing, and dolphin cruises!
  • You can take walking tours of the town too, checking out its prison and its library with spectacular tower.
  • Alternatively, the guesthouse can organise fat bike touring, in which you hop on to a bike with very wide wheels and choose among three tours.
  • If your fitness level is pretty good, you can embark on the ‘Scenic Desert’ expedition, riding through the town and along its dry river bed to reach the famous dunes of the Namib Desert! There’s also an ‘Old City’ tour and the ‘Low-tide Beach Cruise’, both suitable for most types of traveller.
  • In between activities, you can relax back at the guesthouse or perhaps visit the town’s aquarium, which boasts a glass walk-through tunnel.
