Mowani Mountain Camp’s innovative, integrated design means that every soft curve or ragged edge frames the landscape in a different way, so you feel as if you are seeing for the first time, every time. The camp is a perfect base for a few nights in this area, whether you drive yourself or hire a guide – there is lots of flexibility!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Set within the stunning landscapes of Damaraland, Mowani Mountain Camp is absorbed beautifully into its surroundings, allowing guests the unique opportunity of exploring the history of this prehistoric place.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MOWANI MOUNTAIN CAMP:

At Mowani Mountain Camp, you will discover a sanctuary from the heat and dust found in this unspoiled part of the world. Arriving at reception, you will find a small gift shop for you to purchase mementoes of your stay. The spacious lounge area offers privacy from nearby lodges, as it is discreetly tucked away among the boulders of this ragged landscape. Decorated in browns and creams, with artistry reflecting the area, the camp has ample spaces for relaxation, inside and outside, all with stunning views! After pre-dinner drinks by the campfire, you can choose to have your meals outdoors under the stars or within the large comfortable dining area, which is covered by a thatched roof. Enjoy a sundowner at the breathtaking viewpoint high on the rocks above or take a dip in the swimming pool, surrounded by natural beauty and sheer luxury!

There are fifteen separate rooms for guests. Choose from one of six superior view rooms – these are situated around the perimeter of the camp and have spectacular vistas of the Damara landscape! If you would like something a little different, select one of the seven superior rooms, which, while they do not afford the same views, have the novelty of being built around the large natural rocks on the site. All the rooms have a private veranda, an en-suite bathroom, a tea-and-coffee station, and mosquito nets. They are decorated in an Africa theme, with bright colours, soft furnishings, and carved wooden colonial-style furniture. The Mini Suite is spacious, with a thatched roof, en-suite bathroom, and a television. You may not have the views from this suite, but it is very comfortable and has air-conditioning. The Mountain Suite is large and beautifully designed, with its own lounge area, an outdoor and indoor bathroom, a television, private dining facilities and a stocked mini-bar!

ACTIVITIES AT MOWANI MOUNTAIN CAMP:

The camp offers all kinds of different activities for you to enjoy.

  • While the area is not dense in game, take a guided nature drive into the dry river beds and you will probably see antelope and birds. You also have a fair chance of spotting the area’s desert-adapted elephants!
  • The guides are local people, happy to share with you their intimate knowledge of the land as well as their traditions and experiences. You will be able to build up an understanding of the area’s geology, botany and wildlife.
  • Take a visit to Twyfelfontein, with its wealth of ancient rock engravings, and the wonders of the Organ Pipes are within driving distance of the camp.
  • Get up early in the morning and, with your guide, take a drive and discover the dunes! If you would like to stay a little closer to home, there is loads to explore in the surrounding areas of the camp.

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course
