Mozambique in February

Characterised by rains and cyclones, February isn’t ideal for travel to Mozambique, but if you brave the weather you can enjoy some fabulous birding as well as turtle spotting along the coast.

What's the weather going to be like in Mozambique in February?

  • Both days and nights can be very rainy and humid
  • February is a wet season month, with rains lasting for longer in the country’s north than in the south, usually by several weeks
  • Temperatures are high
  • We recommend light layers and sturdy waterproof clothing
  • This is cyclone season, and beaches can get very windy indeed.

What are the highlights of visiting Mozambique in February?

  • Availability of properties is generally good for beach destinations, with no need to book in advance
  • In some areas, it’s unusual for the rain to go on for more than a few hours
  • February is fabulous for birding
  • Five species of turtle nest along the country’s coast, and this month all come waddling ashore to lay their eggs in the sand which makes for great photo opportunities.
  • Ocean temperatures are warm, providing comfortable conditions for scuba diving.

Any lowlights?

  • The high humidity can feel oppressive
  • There are a lot of mosquitoes.
