Quirimbas

Inside the park lie 11 islands – ‘the Quirimba’. Home to a small number of beach lodges, the Quirimba are widely recognised as the most beautiful beach destinations in Africa. Diving and snorkelling here are world class – the marine biodiversity of the region is exceptional, with whales passing through the Archipelago during peak season. Historically, the Quirimba have experienced a mix of Arab and Portuguese influences, bringing an interesting cultural element to a stay in the area. 

Location & access

Northern Mozambique’s Quirimba Archipelago is located in the Cabo Delgado region, an absolutely stunning and remote part of the world. Stretching 250 kilometres up the coast from Pemba to Palma, the Archipelago comprises a chain of 32 small offshore islands, a section of which has been protected as the Quirimbas National Park.

Recent airline schedules have increased the carrying capacity to this area and reliability has greatly improved – this was always the region’s weakness. However, travelling to this part of Africa takes its time and proves difficult to combine with a world-class safari park, Tanzania being the easiest option. We recommend a minimum of five nights in the area to make the effort of getting here well worthwhile.
