Lugenda Wilderness Camp

  • Located in Mozambique's remote Niassa Reserve
  • Extremely remote wilderness area
  • Lovely setting on a bend of the Lugenda River
  • Eight Tented rooms with thatch roofs
  • Can be linked with a stay at a beach resort
When To Visit Mozambique:

Vast and remote, Lugenda is great for safari enthusiasts and explorers, but it is not a place for first-timers.

OVERVIEW:
Set on the banks of the wide Lugenda River, this camp is much more luxurious than one might expect, considering this is one of Africa’s most unexplored areas.

ACCESS & LOCATION:
Lugenda Wilderness Camp is the only camp in Northern Mozambique’s Niassa Reserve. It is a remote location that few travellers visit – the perfect destination for people who like to visit destinations few others have been to.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES:
The eight rooms are raised up onto wooden platforms and are very spacious. They are tented with thatched roofs; not only are the beds king-size and very comfortable, but each suite has its own en suite bathroom, complete with his and hers washbasins as well as baths!

ACTIVITIES:
Lugenda Wilderness is run by the Rani hotel chain, who also own various beach lodges in the area. It is therefore common to link a visit to Lugenda with a stay in one of their beach properties – specifically Matemo or Medjumbe. Although it has plenty of elephant, wild dog and sable antelope, we do not think this park is suitable for first-timers in search of a big game experience. It is better suited to safari enthusiasts and explorers who are more likely to enjoy this vast wilderness.
