"Located close to White Pearl, Machangulo offers a more affordable option for a similar stretch of beach. The same problems arise, though: access is laborious and costly, whilst the beaches on the islands are much more picture perfect."

OVERVIEW:

Service standards at Machangulo are very impressive. The warmth of the initial welcome continues throughout the stay, with all staff proving very attentive. Generally this is a very family-friendly setting, with babysitting services available for parents to have some time to themselves! Guests hoping to unwind in style will love the spa treatments here, ranging from rejuvenating facials to full body exfoliation to standard mani/pedi. And for those who need to stay connected with the outside world, there is free Wi-Fi.

ACCESS & LOCATION:

Machangulo Beach Lodge is situated between the Santa Maria Peninsula and Inhaca Island, in a peaceful channel.

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT MACHANGULO BEACH LODGE:

The landscape surrounding the Beach Lodge is verdant sand-dune forest, tall trees providing plenty of cool shade. The communal areas are constructed from wood and thatch for a classic laidback beach vibe. There is a spacious lounge with lots of comfortable seating, arranged in groups of sofas/armchairs and coffee tables for a friendly feel. The dining room is just as roomy – and both areas have lovely views out to sea. Outdoor dining takes place in the boma, while two bars provide a relaxing environment to get to know your fellow guests. The swimming pool is also a great place to chill, either in the water or on one of the sunloungers arranged on the deck. Bliss!

The guest accommodation at Machangulo consists of 17 luxurious rooms. There are three options – Ocean View Room, Family Villa and Beach Villa. The first of these is described as the pride and joy of the Lodge! Each is able to sleep two adults and one child. Amenities include air conditioning, a ceiling fan, a mini bar, a room safe, a private deck, a hairdryer and an en-suite bathroom. The Family Villas are designed to provide the ultimate in flexibility and privacy for families and other groups! Every villa contains two private en-suite rooms connected by a central area. This central area boasts a small kitchen, lounge, dining room and bar – there is enough space overall to accommodate four adults and two children. There are partial views of the ocean and the same amenities as the Ocean View Rooms. Finally, the Beach Villas are another fantastic option for groups or families, also capable of sleeping four adults and two children. Set very close to the beach, these offer privacy in abundance in addition to all the other amenities. All accommodation options have a cool contemporary style, perfect for relaxing on holiday.

*For families with children under the age of 6 years, we would not recommend this property for safety reasons, due to the balconies, decks and railings.*

**Please be aware that the swimming pool here has no depth markings, so take care before you jump in**

ACTIVITIES AT MACHANGULO BEACH LODGE:

Machangulo’s activities take full advantage of the Lodge’s fabulous location on the oceanside!

  • The most popular thing to do here is snorkelling, as 2km of pristine snorkelling is available at the Inhaca Island Marine Reserve.
  • The same reserve provides great scuba diving too, whether you are a beginner or more advanced in the sport. Kayaking through the estuaries in the area is a wonderful way to view wildlife, perhaps even dolphins!
  • Guests can also enjoy fishing in some of the best spots in the world, while keen birders will be delighted to sight such species as the African fish eagle and great white pelicans.
  • And it is also possible to head out on a tour of Santa Maria Village and Inhaca Island – this is a very pleasant way to get to know the region and highly recommended by YZ!
