*Unfortunately, Ibo Island Lodge is within an area of Mozambique that the FCO is advising against travel to, but given the remote location of this island and it's distance from problem areas, we are hoping that this will be short lived. So although we are not selling this property at the moment, we hope to be doing so very shortly. If you would like to speak to one of our consultants for more up to date information, please don't hesitate to contact us.*
OVERVIEW:
Ibo Island Lodge is the restored house of the old Portuguese governor on the beautiful Ibo Island. It is set in lush gardens brimming with birds and faces west to catch the spectacular sunsets.
ACCESS & LOCATION:
Ibo Island Lodge is situated in the Quirimbas National Park of northern Mozambique.
ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT IBO ISLAND LODGE:
The house has been attractively renovated using traditional methods and local craftsmen, giving it a distinctly colonial feel. The 14 guest rooms are in three buildings, all over 100 years old, with high ceilings and thick walls which keeps the interiors wonderfully cool. The rooms face the turquoise waters of the bay or the colourful tropical gardens. All are spacious, with lovely mahogany hand-carved beds, Indian silks throws, large windows and wide verandas.
The food here is first-class, with the emphasis on fresh ingredients, especially the local seafood, fruit and salads. Service is personal and friendly.
**For families with children under the age of 6 years, we always request a ground floor room or a room without a balcony for safety reasons. If you stay here with us, please ensure this is what you are given.**
ACTIVITIES AT IBO ISLAND LODGE:
- There is plenty to keep guests busy, apart from swimming in the ocean and lazing on the beach – there are walking tours around the fascinating old town, daily dhow trips for snorkelling at a pristine sand bank, kayak trips into mangrove forests and around the edge of the island to the Old Fort, scuba diving excursions and kayaking.
- The lodge offers a particularly good 4 day Dhow and Kayak Safari, camping in tents, eating delicious food on amazing beaches whilst exploring some of the mainland coast line and other islands in the archipelago. It comes highly recommended.
