OVERVIEW:

We reckon Tipilikwani Mara has loads to recommend it to travellers to the Maasai Mara National Reserve. And its family accommodation plus activities for little ones make it well worth considering if you are planning a family holiday!

ACCESS & LOCATION:

The Camp has its own access to the Reserve, via a bridge across the river, so there is no need for guests to travel through the towns nearby. Open all year round, Tipilikwani offers an exciting range of activities whenever you choose to visit!

ACCOMMODATION & FACILITIES AT TIPILIKWANI MARA CAMP:

On arrival, walk into the Camp’s reception area and you will be greeted by a cool drink and a warm flannel, to clear away the dust of your journey. There is plenty of comfy seating here! The floor is made from flagstones, while interesting artwork covers the bright yellow walls. There is a shop off Reception – this sells mementoes as well as any essentials you may need, such as toothpaste and sun cream. Follow the flagstone pathway to the main lounge and dining area and you will find ample space for relaxing! The furniture in this part of Camp comes from all over Africa and individual dining tables are ready for your meals. A tea and coffee station is always well stocked and you can even eat under the stars in the outdoor dining area. Be sure to enjoy a drink or two around the fire pit on an evening, where you can mingle with the other guests. With as much or as little space as you like to relax in, you can be as social or as private as you wish!

The 20 luxury tents at Tipilikwani Mara are well spaced out, so you have complete privacy from other guests. Choose from twin, queen- or king-size beds, and from standard or family accommodation. En-suite facilities in the family rooms include a standalone bath, as well as the shower that features in all standard options. All rooms boast a private veranda, where you will find a few chairs and a table. There are great views across the landscape! Inside, the décor is in cream, red and green, giving the tents a natural feel. The bedding matches the cushions on the day sofa and there is a writing desk in the corner. The bathroom has a cream-tiled floor in addition to a wooden table, for twin sinks and a mirror. You have hot and cold running water, and drinking water is taken from there too. The rooms are well kept and beautiful, with everything you could need during your stay!

ACTIVITIES AT TIPILIKWANI MARA CAMP:

This camp’s activities are many and varied.

  • Take a game drive and enjoy the opportunity to see the diversity of animals and birds living permanently in the Maasai Mara, as well as many migratory species. From July to October, the Great Migration storms through, bringing not only wildebeest but also zebra, gazelle, eland and impala! Guided walks are another wonderful way to see the local wildlife, especially the small things that are not visible from the 4×4.
  • Go on a hot air balloon safari in the early morning and float across the landscape, before indulging in a champagne breakfast when you land. You can also attend lectures on Maasai culture by the resident naturalist and check out the entertainment provided by local Maasai warriors!
  • If you are here as a family, parents can have a snooze while the children take part in bush-craft lessons, learning how to make bows and arrows and how to start a fire using only sticks. Nature walks are possible for the youngsters too. For those who like to relax, take advantage of the in-room massage, manicures and pedicures. Tipilikwani Mara Camp really does cater to all types of holiday makers!

*This property is unfenced and located in a wildlife area, so large and potentially dangerous animals do pass through. If you opt to stay here, always be alert when walking around the camp and request for a member of staff to escort you if you have any concerns. Any guest is escorted after dark as a matter of course.
